No fold

Nope. The folding mechanism is in the mirror. If you want the new (not any more) style mirrors and want to retain folding, you will have to get the mirrors from Europe or some other place that still offers folding.

So am I correct in saying that all US spec "2nd generation" mirrors no longer have automatic folding options? Does it still ofer auto dimming?

Thanks

First of all, the mounting bolts are the same for all years and models. Just pop off the triangular speaker cover and you will see them. You also must remove the panel just below it for access to the electrical plug.

The idea that the mirrors are not available in the UK doesn't make sense. Maybe you should try another dealer.

You might contact MBenz.nl.nl/ (I bought my mirrors and Euro taillights from him a few years back) and ask if he can obtain mirrors for right hand drive cars.

There is a difference, one being that the driver's side has the self dimming mirror feature which would mean that the wiring and plug would be different.

I posted that very picture when I swapped my mirrors which clearly showed the VERY minor difference in glass size.

Didn't matter to those who claim there is a big difference in glass size, despite the proof that they are wrong.

"OOO, my wife won't drive it because she doesn't like the tiny mirrors." That's just one nonsense posting.

Just wondering how would you know your side mirror have an autodimming option?

Or.... if my car do not have the autodimming initially and if I buy the side mirrors with an autodimming function, will the function remained or will there be an issue with the cable connections.

So my neighbor grabbed me a set of newer style mirrors from a totaled car at his body shop, I installed them no issue but my older mirrors had 2 connection plug wires where as the newer models only had 1 plug. I do not have auto folding mirrors. The plug holes are labeled 1 and 2, and the new mirror plugs into 2. Any ideas what the 2nd set of wires was for on my older mirrors?

This should be easy to figure out - what function worked on your old mirror that isn't working on your new mirror?

Folding? Heating? Dimming? Signal LEDs? Underside light? (this might only apply to 2012 models)

n00b question - is autodimming a glare reduction thing, or is that where it points the mirror downwards when you put the car in reverse?

auto dimming is just when the mirror is tinted through electrochromics to help lessen the glare of car lights behind you, think like your rearview mirror (presumably) works.

Anyone know if there are extra steps to installing the auto-dimming, folding, heated mirror assy onto a 2009 that has all options but folding? I read that the switch assy would need to be updated as well but is it simply plug and play of the switch assy and mirror assy? Seems like there would need to be some rewiring done as well but hey, I'm no expert.
