Mike, have you had any progress on the other LED bulbs you were trying to source for the tail lights?

I would be interested in 6000k reverse LED lights for the tails, and red LED upper light for the tail lights (as I bought after market tail light that has the bottom light and turn signal LED, but the top still uses my old halogen bulb.

I've decided not to do reverse light and tail light LEDs as there just doesn't seem to be much of a market for them. Also, the design I have for turn tail light wasn't as bright as regular bulb unfortunately and alternative design to make it brighter would make it pretty pricey. I might revisit it at a later time, but for now turn signals should be here hopefully this week with my next shipment and then I'll be tackling festoons.

Yeah, 99% of the time, when there's component seperation, you have solder failure and that'd due to over insertion where the voltage plate touches the resistor or other components, cause that's the only way it could get hot enough to the point where the solder melts. I've talked to several other LED manufacturers and this is a pretty common install issue with open circuitry LEDs. Just gotta be careful when you plug it in, as soon as you feel resistance, that's the first resistor touching the voltage plate. Pull it out at that point to give you some buffer space. Then when you go to plug the connector back into the housing, grip the connector and LED 50/50 as some accidently push the LED back in too far again as they ferret out the hole in the housing.

I was going to get the manufacturer to extend the length of the LED to help minimize the potential for over insertion, but as some pointed out here, then they wouldn't be able to fit these in the rear plate or sidemarkers as they just barely fit perfectly in there, so opted against.

got weird problem that i noticed yesterday

when i open or close the car after the light goes off, one led stay lite, goes on and off for about 3 times and only then goes off completely

anyone knows what wrong?

@ Reno, my guess is that maybe a resistor is acting up or faulty. That's about all I can think of. Make sure the connection is good and that nothing is physically wrong or bad with the LED. I am sure mike is working on an answer for you as I type this.

@ AZN You said that you dropped the reverse, brake light and tail turn signal LED, but that the next turn signal LED should be on its way soon, are you referring to the front turn signals?

Also, what is the festoon bulb, is that the interior rear seat dome bulb? How do LEDs fare in the interior, I just kept the polarg M4 because they did the trick; I am not sure if I want super bright LED in the interior. Does it cover the inside well or is it just concentrated bright light and dark areas like the leds under the mirror? Also, do the LEDs maintain the dimming to off function or is it just immediate full on and off?

Try switching the LED and see if the issue follows the LED or if it stays with that socket. If it follows the LED, might be an issue with the LED and I'll warranty it. If it stays with that socket, then you probably have a wiring issue where that socket isn't completely powering down when it should. Remember, it takes much less voltage to light up these LEDs compared to normal bulbs.

I nixed the idea of reverse and brake lights, but turn signals are still a go. on 204s, the rear turn signal is different than the front turn signal. I've got the rear ones worked out and ready to go, but ran into some issue with the front. Did some debugging and worked out some kinks with my engineer. My new test set for the fronts were actually just delivered today so I'll be testing them out. If all goes well, I'll be hosting a group buy for turn signals. I'll offer red, white, and amber for the group buy and the two colors that sell the most will be the two colors I'll be offering moving forward.

Regarding LED interiors, the Festoon bulb I'll be working on will work for your rear dome light, but was more marketing it towards other MB classes who have festoon plate lights. I had interior LEDs on the front and rear dome, but ended up taking them out as the light was a bit too harsh in dead of night for me. However, I think my LED lights work great for the front foot well as it provides a nice ambient lighting and looks pretty slick.

I already sold off my original test set for the rears, but if the fronts work out well, I'll be sporting the white fronts at autocon. Hit me up at the show if you want to see em. So......Michael. Hate to keep asking you, but what are the chances that I can buy myself a pair of LED turn signals for Christmas this year? How's the test set looking?

I got my new test fronts and not too happy with them. Basically the front turn signal, even when off, bleeds some voltage to the unit still which causes the LED to very slightly light up when off. To get around this, they have a separate flasher unit to install which will cut off voltage and regulate the blinking. I want these to be as plug and play as possible and having to force you guys to do any sort of rewiring that weekend DIYers can't do is unacceptable. Right now, I'm thinking of just opening up the group buy for the rears and keep working on the fronts.
