my howto: CLEAN wiring of the hidden AUX in Glove compartment for under $2
#26
Thanks so much for posting this how-to! I hated the fact that I couldn't use my iphone to play music and make calls at the same time, not to mention that the dash controls don't work right for playing music on the iphone. In fact, I was gonna order a 160-gig iPod just for this reason. Now I have a much better solution. Also, kudos for the site to order the cables from. Just ordered both and can't wait to install it!

I just did it last week follwing your post. But the Aux input volume is very low! When I set the volume at normal level for CD and radio, I cannot hear anything from Aux. Do you have the same problem? How do you solve that? Thank you

There is an option through the radio to set volume from AUX as regular or boost (I think that's what they call it). It will set your volume higher by default.

Thank you. but I dont see it in the menu. What's the model year of your car? Mine is 08. I saw another post saying that MB has added this option on the new firmware. Does anyone know if I can update it at dealership?

I don't know anything about upgrades from the dealer.

Surface Mount Audio Jack
If anyone's interested, instead of the marine-grade jack, there are many surface-mount 3.5mm audio jacks that sit flush with the console. This is the route I plan to go. If you search for "3.5mm Stereo Panel Mount Jack" on google you can find a bunch, such as this one from vetcosurplus.com:
or this this one from datapro.net that doesn't require any wiring.
Just FYI.

MB is kinda slow on technology.... even with the iPod integration adapter, it sounds the same. AUX / iPod Cable are both play as analog.. CDs and other media format we have on our car is played Digitally. so it's not ur car, it's just the way it is... but i still like the AUX better than iPod adapter ( more control over searching music and the EQ.
and also just turn on your ipod volume up to 98%

sorry to bring back an old thread..but I just ran an aux cable all the way through and had the cable go through the glove box in the middle..that way there is never any cables exposed and it looks like its from the dealer...there is a hole if you remove the thin carpet thats on the bottom of the glove box, I didnt have to take out the air vents, center console, or anything

With the popularity of smartphones and bluetooth a2dp, I'm looking into a wireless solution.
Has anyone looked into getting a bluetooth 3.5mm receiver to hook up to the auxiliary?
See below:
It goes for about $20 on eBay. No wires, and you can hide the receiver in your glove. Only bad thing is that you have to charge it every so often or hard wire power to it.

I have the blackberry Bluetooth adapter wired in the glove box (used 3M double sided tape and hid it under the self). There appears to be a newer version than what I have (in the link below - it was around $20 when i picked it up), but i'm sure most of them work the same. I recommend against the battery powered ones since there is power in the glove box and you don't have to deal with charging it.

Couple of questions regarding the Blackberry branded bluetooth adapter. How do you have the power hooked up? Is it just connected to a car charger in the glove box? If so, does the power disconnect after you shut off the car. If not, it would suck to have bluetooth audio transmitted to the unit while you're at home with the engine off.
