my howto: CLEAN wiring of the hidden AUX in Glove compartment for under $2

Cost:
87 cents male to male Retractable 3.5mm wire
62 cents 6ft male to female 3.5mm

first, I do have the iPod wire in my car, but I hate it ...(it's not digital sound, but analog.. so sounds like some ****) i think it is the worst thing ever because 1) the quality of the sound is so weak, 2) the volume is limited, 3) the control is so awful.

2nd, it's so hard to find a complete guide to do this online.. so i just want to post it up for anyone else that have been looking the howto, it's easy and Monoprice got cheap and GOOD quality wires

Therefore, i heard there is a hidden AUX, and lemme tell you.. it's a world of a different. the sound quality is better than the iPod wire b/c it is not go through MB's "ipod controller system": 1) there is no limit to the volume (get to pump it up loud) 2) easier to control on your iPod/audio devices 3) enable to control the equalizer!

I just want to show my howto wire the hidden AUX. And here it is! hope u guys like it =)

1) open up the panel from the side, just open the glove compartment, then pull it the side out

2) found the Aux wire taped up

3) plugged up the Aux wire male to female

4) tucked it under the glove compartment and into it,

5) line it neatly inside glove compartment

6) slide it to the other side

7)just showing where i am going to tuck it away

8) now u don't see it

9)all the way to where the seat belts is at

10)this is with the seat all the way down

11) 3.5mm retractable extension

12) it can extend to all the way to the front

I did the same thing except I ran the wire above/behind the glove box. I also stopped tracing the cable right at the seat and tucked it in to the mesh map holder.

did this today, I am so glad that I can now control the iPod when I am a passenger in my car! Do I need to disconnect the factory iPod cable or can I just run this through the "Aux" input with no alterations? Thanks!!

You r good to go man! No need to unplug anything, if u have an iPod in the iPod wire thenitll take over ur aux wire, that's all. Glad ithelps out!

Nice!

What about running this thing up into the arm rest compartment? I liked how my 3 series had USB, Aux, and Power in the arm rest compartment. Using your method, get's the Aux right there. Just need power now.

is there any way to make it look stock?
possibly find a DIY kit to hard mount it somewhere in the dash or center console?
similar to this: assuming the aftermarket parts exist?!?!

i figured that is what you were asking for lkevinl...

i agree that this method looks more factory then having some wire pop out of the side of of the seat... but both methods work just fine!
