This is a common problem. It seems to be the parcel shelf. My MB mechanic sorted it out under warranty

Welcome to the forum. The good news is that these cars are proving to be quite solid so once you get this issue sorted, you should be golden...
If the dealer can't find the issue, be sure to ask the SA to allow you to ride with them or the tech to help replicate the exact conditions that causes the rattle.

Try stuffing some foam rubber up under the parcel shelf through the holes in the boot ( trunk)

Txs Carsy. This has been a really annoying issue since I have the car.
The noise is a metal clicking coming from the rear center seat belt mechasism. It has a couple of iron little ***** who keeps the seat belt tight in case of accident. I had the car three times in the MB dealer and they are putting more and more foam, but the noise wil be there until they change the system... And the factory didn't authorize that.
Anyone with the same problem. They told me here that is a common problem in the W204.
I really miss my W203. It had much better material, finish and riding!

There's another tread on here that talks about a rear shelf noise, and it was traced back to some kind of filter canister that resonates with the speaker. Can't find the tread though. Sorry.

I had an irritating noise of unknown origin inside the car in the front. It took me a while, but I finally figured it out. It was my rear view mirror! I have just pushed the shell back in place, but I am gonna have to take a look and really fix it soon. But I got to tell you all, It only occurred while I was driving on the highway, and it seems like it was coming from the passengers side of the interior, and it was, just on the rear of the mirror LOL!

Well... after 4 days and $ 200... the noise is still there, they and I know that it's from the rear center seat belt system, and the official answer is: we are sorry but it's a common problem and it has no solution... just unbelievable. I don't have more time to spend with the MB dealer here, and this is my third C class since 2004, and I'm very dissapointed...
Thanks for all your suppoft guys!!!

i came to a conclusion that its the bolt that vibrates through the seat belt machinism. Im planning on drimmeling the opening on the seat belt holder to place a large rubber garment and then bolting it to see if it takes that noise away.

its most likely the plastic speaker grill piece in the back shelf... put felt tape under it and reseat it... thats what mine was back in 2007 when the car was new off the lot, dealer fixed it

It's the rear belt system. You can put all the foam you want but it's impossible to repair it. Finally, I'm buying more and more music on iTunes... It helps not to listen the noise. Txs guys!!!

These rattles occur mostly in vehicles that sit outside for the summer and start to "squeak" because the parts have expanded and are chaffing against each other, then start to "buzz or rattle" in the cold winter months as the materials shrink.... the other problem is that Benz's fit their interiors panels real tight from the factory, the fit and finish is among the very best in the industry, so there's very little wiggle room for expansion and contraction.
The only real fix is to detect the area of the noise, dismantle it, shave it, lube it, secure it (if it's a wiggly cable with a zip-tie) or foam it.

Guys.... I had the same rattle. Swore it was the seatbelt assembly. Turns out it was the grab handles above each door. Put some sticky felt where the handle hinges to the base. Do it on all four handles and that should be the end of the annoying rattle.

2009 c300 4matic palladium silver, grey/black mb tex. Packages include 057,413,731,p02,320,333,792
what I found
I have a 2009 c300 and if you get in the trunk and under the deck lid and bang your fist on the steel under the deck lid I discovered the mechanism that I think is used for remote trunk opening rattles a bit with that annoying noise a person hears on and off, what I hate is its not consistent so of course hard to find. If you get in the trunk bang your fist by that mechanism and then take your other hand and or finger and support it, you wont hear that vibration or sound. I'm **** and just putting my two cents in but that might be a issue Check out the pic of my little rattle over certain bumps and bass.
