Exclamation Help !! - Bent Rim

Hi All,
I have put my 2008 C300 Sport in for service due to noise and shaking at 0-25mph driving, this morning. I just received a call from my SA, she said it's because of "bended rim" from going through potholes.
This will cost me total of $27 hundreds for all four (includes new rims and tires). Do you think this worth it? or I have a choice of having it straighten for $150/wheel.

1- Is it true that MB orginal rims are made soft and can't take much hits or this is another MB stealer trick?.

2- I wonder if I can get a two new set of rims from www.tirerack.com for less?
Would someone please let me know if you have ordered and had your rims installed through www.tirerack.com? Is there any issue with TPMS or TPMS warning after installation?

Great appreciated ..

Thank you All.

All four rims are bent? All tires are worn?

Anyway, yes, I have purchased tires on rims from tirerack.com a few times and had them shipped to one of their approved local installers (they recommend based on your zip code). The entire event was flawless, TPMS worked perfectly, and the deals are much better than the dealer. They have rims, but check for the proper offset. I suggest shopping by vehicle, where you enter your model and year on their home page. Check their surveys for tons of data from other buyers. The surveys are by category (High performance, high performance all season, grand touring, etc.), so you can see what tire does best for the type of driving you do.

At least you will wind up with MUCH better tires than what came on the car originally.

+1 on Tire Rack. They are excellent. But just to be clear, the TPMS only works if you buy another set of sensors from Tire Rack and have them installed on the new wheels. Or you could have your sensors switched over from your factory wheels, but that's more complicated if you're buying a set of wheels and tires already mounted from the Tire Rack.

As for your factory wheels, it is acceptable to have them straightened. A good company should be able to straighten them almost good as new as long they are not really out of round. But for $150 a wheel, I would just get new wheels from Tire Rack.

that would be rediculous to spend $2700 on a new set of stock wheels/tires.. mayb the dealer is bs'n you and only 1 or 2 wheels are bent.. also why would you need new tires because of a bent rim?.. my opinion, look at this as an opportunity to get new wheels

For that kind of money you can get some very nice aftermarket wheels and tires. I would go to a Discount Tire or someplace similar and let them check things out(generally a quick once over for free since they want to sell you something anyhow) and see what they say.

I would inspect the rims myself if all four of them are out of round, it is mainly common that the fronts are bent because of the weignt of the front of the car. There are high chances that if the pothole is big enough, it can definitely damage the tire along with the rim.

If you're wanting stock wheels and tires, I have 2010 wheels and tires that are practically brand new with less than 500 miles on them for sale. Let me know ifyou would be interested.

I found these a few days after I purchased new rear tires.

I really like the 6 spoke amg design and would have bought them had I not purchase new rear tires only a few days earlier.

This auction, which is really a buy it now price, is for all 4.

THank you All.

I got a final quote from the stealer: $2901.04 (for wheels and tires).

I wonder if this is under warranty? Despite it's alloy not steel. Shouldn't alloy would be able to take more heavier impact compare to steel wheels? Just a thought. THanks.

No, it's not. Had you avoided whatever you hit, the wheel would still be round!!!

Redfox,

Got a couple of questions for you.

What kind of rims do you currently have?

Do you recall any particularly bad potholes or bouncing off of curbs, etc.?

Question for everybody else. Does 0-25 vibration sound like rim problems? Just guessing, but I'd think if it was rims, Redfox would have an uncorrectable vibration at all speeds.

Not covered under warranty. I puchased optional "road hazard insurance" when I bought the car. It was a third-party policy passed through the dealer but from past experience I felt it was worth it. It covers nails, pot hole damage, etc. Wheels covered in full and tries pro-rated for mileage.

This would be a better deal if you are considering the 17" AMGs from the C350 - rims for $699 from SF Craigslist. These are the same rims as the ebay posting above.

I have no connection to the seller. Here is the link http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/1873702571.html.

Go to any tire shop and have them balance the wheels, it worth the try unless the wheels are very dented

Question: When a rim gets that much curb rash, is it highly probable that the rim is no longer symetric? The area around the curb rash is pushed in a little which would cause some lateral wable in how the tire tracks??????

I don't honestly know and am asking the experts for their opinion.

I would think that curb rash is only going to rub off a bit of the metal on the surface and not distort the entire wheel. If you smack it hard enough, anything is possbile, but you will likely have much more surface damage than simple "rash".

Actually, rims usually bend on the inside edge, not the outer edge. The outer edge has the spokes of the wheel to support it, but the inner edge is just an open circle, so much more susceptible to bending.

MB hasn't sold a car with steel wheels here since the '80s. Aluminum alloy bends easier than steel.

Warranty?? Surely you jest.

It's not covered under warranty, but if you want you can make it an insurance claim and just pay the deductible.
