Never thought I'd say this but...we bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee!!!
Wife replaced her CRV with a brand new 2011 Jeep GC Limited Overland 4x4 this weekend and it is incredible! I've never ever been a Chrysler product fan but after reading countless rave reviews for the new Jeep GC and really liking the pics I'd seen online we decided to take a look. We've been looking for something bigger to replace the Honda CR-V for our growing family and the new VW Touareg was top on the list. The new Jeep intrigued me though and seeing was believing. This truck is beautiful inside and out and the worksmanship is very Germanic, actually my first thought was the feeling that I was sitting in a Mercedes-Benz.
I believe that this was the final project that MB and Chrysler had worked on before the "divorce" and it shows. Superior materials, fit/finish, design, every detail is perfect in my opinion. The interior is incredible with leather everywhere, even a leather stitched dash! It may be the best looking SUV out there right now too. The new GC drives like it's on rails and handles more like a crossover, NOT LIKE A JEEP. In fact if the Jeep badge were gone you'd swear you were in a very expensive German SUV. It has that well planted MB feel on the road. The 360 HP Hemi V8 sounds great and has very good power but it's not going to give us whiplash. Power is better at highway speeds than taking off the line. This is a heavy beast so I am not surprised. This thing looks too good to ever take it rock climbing but it is totally capable of that if you're into that sort of thing. Towing cap. is also 7200 lbs!
The tech package and all the options of the Overland package are great: Bluetooth, Voice recognition Nav, real time traffic, sat. radio/TV, 560 Watt sound system with sub, cooled front seats, heated front/back seats, heated wood/leather sterring wheel, auto everything, DVD for the kids. It does everything but make your morning coffee and all for $43K. We were able to get about $2.5K off of sticker but they're not dealing too much since it's their new "it" car right now.
Anyone in the market for a new SUV should give it a look and you will be surprised if nothing else. The MB influence is very apparent inside and out but Jeep seems to be downplaying it probably due to the sepearation of Chrysler and Benz. But I know we have a MB Jeep in the garage

Congrats, they have caught my eye as well! I read that it was in fact developed jointly between M-B and Chrysler, and that it actually uses the ML chassis. So that's why it feels like a Benz

Congrats on your new hybrid...German/American hybrid I guess...
If I were looking for a bigger SUV, it would certainly be on my list as well.

Thanks guys, ours is Blackberry Pearl (like the phone, weird!) with 20" rims and aggressive looking tires. It looks like a bad machine but very refined inside. If I can figure out how to post pics I will soon.

Congratulations and excellent choice on the paint!
My dad needs to get an interim car before the new ML Diesel comes out in 2012, and I told him to look at this car because I think it loosk great, and seems to be much better built than the older ones. He's still skeptical because of American automakers' quality as of late (especially considering the bankruptcies), but considering it's only temporary I think it would be a good choice for now since he doesn't want to buy a brand new ML now and take a huge hit one year down the road.
How's your fuel economy?

Makes me happy to see the media praising Chryslers. Never in a million years dreamed that would ever happen.
The new Grand Cherokee DESTROYS the imports in this segment.

Also I found it ironic that that article praised Fiat because of the new GC when it's so clearly MB influenced. The latest Chryslers even have MB key fobs.

The news from the last several years, especially the last year or two, shows the US makers catching up and often pulling ahead of the Germans and the Japanese. It really comes down to a model by model comparison at this point but for the first time in twenty years(other than the always solid trucks), I wouldn't shy away from domestics.
I tried convincing my ex-gf's dad to buy a domestic since he always comes to me for new car advice, but he just didn't trust American makes no matter what I said. He had a Chrysler New Yorker and a Buick Regal before, and I guess that just permanently turned him off them or something. However I do suspect my ex had something to do with it also since she's opinionated and always gets her way (glad I got rid of her).
For the record, her dad had two Avalons and was getting rid of both because of the recent issues and because he didn't like the styling of the recent ones very much anymore. The ironic thing is he ended up buying a Lexus ES350 despite all my recommendations hahaha!
