Broken doorhandle...

Hi, Have had this issue with my late 2008, and with VWs, Audi A4s and other cars in the past. No biggie.
In my case I was lucky that the internal metal rod had just popped out of the plastic clip, and I was able to just relocate it again. But took additional measures to ensure it doesn't happen again. Surprising really considering that the back door internal lock has probably only been operated less than 10 times in the whole time I have had the car (from new). Youtube came to the rescue for me.

This happened on my 2010 C300 passenger side door two years ago and now on my drivers side. Mercedes Benz doesn't want to stand behind this as bad workmanship. It is completely ridiculous, it should be fixed\replaced no questions asked, it is a poor design, poor testing and cheap materials. Why buy a Mercedes? I'll never buy another. Complete embarrassment.

MB should design a repair kit; which would consist of a new lever, pin, and connector. Cost would be about $5.00 to them. Sell it for $50.00 .
This is another item on these cars that should not fail at the rate they do. It says a lot about their suppliers.

I have seen the handle being for sale for about a year now.
It does require bit of work to replace it.
Definitely better then ordering a color matching panel from the dealer.

As a new member, I don't think I can post links, but if you search Amazon for mercedes w204 inner door handle repair kit, you'll find it. It's a bit of a PITA to take the door panel apart, but it's far cheaper. I used a wood chisel and rubber mallet to shear off the plastic welds.

I was disappointed that the kit didn't include the little while connector that attaches the cable to the handle. I found it on the parts diagram for a later year MB. It appears they started offering parts for the door instead of making you buy the whole panel.

My door handle broke 5 days ago. Checked online and found replacement handle on Ebay under $30. Just has handle, screws, washers, and pin to hold handle into panel, No instructions.
Bought the Auto trim removal tools, torx tools, and wood chisels (more about this in a moment) at Harbor Freight for under $25.
Google IE amazon.com w204 door handle replacement, scroll down to the video, How to replace your interior door handle.
Or Google IE w204 door handle replacement, Youcanic, Mercedes-Benz Interior Door Handle DIY FIX W204 should be first result for written step by step instructions.
If you are careful and take your time it is only 1 1/2 hours work, better than buying a new door card.
Step 3, Top Tip. Removing ALL the melted tabs took under 5 mins. Get hammer, use 1/2 inch wood chisel as flat and level
as possible and tap the bottom of the melted tabs, letting chisel cut the tops off. I swear when they pop off in 5 to 10 secs a piece you will be thanking me.
Step 5, The door handle cable clip is a real pain to get off Old handle. I used channel locks and needle noose and small flathead screwdriver to tear the old handle from around the clip.
Lastly if you are using the cordless drill/screwdriver to install screws set clutch to one of lowest settings and then
hand tighten all screws to finish.
Hope this helps others and saves them some money better allocated to other things.

Same issue brings me here. Driver's door handle disconnected/not working - assume broken.
It's obv a well known problem now and there seem to be various replacement kits on line and you tube 'how to's'...
Just wondered if anyone had purchased a kit recently and if so where from (link for ref pls) was it quality / worth the money etc?

it can be replaced without changing the entire door panel, i did it on my 2012 its not real hard but you need some patience removing the panel backing to get to the handle there are replacement kits for the handle online for about30$ the entire panel will cost u around 1K. There are a few you tubes on how to do this

Door handle fix is expensive!
The handle on my wife’s 2013 C250 sport sedan broke this week. Dealer just said it’s going to be $2500. Add a rear light that also needs to be replaced at $600 and I’m starting to question if it’s time to sell it. It’s a super clean red car and the dealer says it’s one of the cleanest they’ve seen at 10 years old. She loves it. The loaner she brought home sounds like a Toyota.

Everything around the driver will have issues because it’s the most abusive area, for me … torn seat, peeled control buttons, door lock, door handle.
