2011 C-Class Confusion
So the news article:
https://mbworld.org/c-class/2011_C-C...in_Detroit.php
mentions that the new 2011 C-Class will be unveiled at the Detriot Show in early 2011.
However, I went to an MB dealer this past week and the 2011 C-Class lineup is already on sale. They placing people in Sept/October production.
Is there something that will change to the 2011 lineup half-way?
If you visit the MB CANADA website or MB USA, the 2011 are already on sale.
Anyone know the answer?

It is known practice for US and Canada to market a car as +1 model year. To the rest of the world, it is what it is. The current year is the car model year.
That being said, the facelift model in url link above, would be 2012 model year for US and Canada; elsewhere, it is the actual 2011 model year.

The 2011 and 2012 look pretty much the same. I wonder if the "2012 will recieve modified engines from its current line-up" mean a C350 with 300+ horsepower (maybe a turbo engine or something), and if the "7 spd transmission will be offered" means a DCT. The regular 7 spd is already offered currently.
I wish they just flat out said what they're going to do, rather then talk cryptic and have the user do all the work to figure out the exact changes.

For example: VW model years change Aug 1 -- everywhere in the world. And they've been doing that since the sixties at least.

In curiosity, in USA/Canada, when you buy MY2011 car on year 2010, does you car registration actually said it is 2011 model? or only said 2010 production year?

In the U.S., a car is identified by the model year for which it is certified by its' manufacturer. A car may be certified and identified for the following model year if shipped from the plant after January. So, for example, starting January, 2011, a model may, at the manufacturer's option, be certified as a 2012 model. Those vehicles may be produced earlier, but not have the cert label affixed nor be shipped from the assembly plant (entered into "interstate commerce") prior to midnight, on the morning of January 1st. The date of purchase by the retail buyer does not matter.

The new engines are unlikely to see the light of day in US models until Fuel Quality improves. They are designed to run on narrow cut Eurograde low sulphur fuel. They would require to be re-engineered to run on US fuel. US refineries need to be upgraded at vast cost & with lower yields. That would mean more expensive fuel. It will have to come. It's a matter of when, or the US will be left with a bunch of obsolete engines.

Nothing stopping that version of the M272 - That configuration would be a Benz USA decision. As I don't see refinery upgrades any time soon on the horizon I suspect MBUSA might hold that option back for as long as possible to have something new to offer.
