FREE COMAND MAP UPDATES
The burning question might be, is the US one of the 38 countries? Since MBUSA has been selling this data for a mere $249 per update, will they participate in the program? As one who has spent the money to update my Comand, I am gritting my teeth.

my interpretation is that one person bought it, and while continuing to make use of it, is allowing others to use it as well. Whether by sale, lease or gift matters not.
If the disk in question is a tool, like a hammer or screwdriver, that is used to complete some finite task and then set aside, then I have no problem with "sharing". An MB mechanic would legally be doing what these forum members are doing.
If the disk in question is an application disk that needs to be present in the drive for the application to function, like a game disk or (wait for it...) a navigation disk (
), then this sharing equates to piracy.

You sound like a Microsofter.
Who said I own a w204? I own an S55, like it says in my user information to the left (next to "Drives:"), at the request of the moderators when I signed up. Sorry you missed it (how??). I humbly apologize for tainting your mighty W204 thread with my posts.
Actually I sound like someone concerned with avoiding software piracy. I'm a software engineer, and I sure as ***** don't like giving away work for free. And no I don't work for Microsoft, I work for one of the "Big" accounting firms.
I won't comment on what you sound like.
edit: i forgot to thank you for clearing up how the disk is used.
I am not sure what other countries outside Europe are affected - I dont think the problem exists in the US and I should stress that this problem now only affects E classes fitted with the NTG4-W212 Comand APS system.
