Yup, for such a phenomenal shop, looks like they cut the wrong part.

What else could they have possible cut out? I doubt any shop would cut out the cat, and if they cut out the mufflers in place of the x-pipe they are just plain stupid...

They cut the mufflers

When I saw the parts at home I raised my eyebrow but I had never seen under the car.

No I bought the X pipe and gave it to them. They are great on customer service so i am sure they will figure out a solution.

Still not bad for labor charge... I got it for $45 because it was a hook up

Which part of the muffler was cut? Did you hear a sound difference after install?

Im sure it's an easy fix, cut and weld

so is the x-pipe mod done purely for better sound? does it decrease or increase mileage and performance?

Yes it just gives your exhaust a slightly louder and a much deeper sound in the 3,500-4,000 rpm mark... no performance gains noted

what about decrease in performance? is it necessary to re-map any of the electronics so the mileage/performance that was calibrated to original pipe stays the same?

thanks for the info man btw

I don't think no one has really done quantitative analysis before and after an x-pipe install... it's hard to justify paying and spending the time for an exhaust back pressure test using a digital manometer or conventional back pressure gauge or chassis dyno for less than a $100 mod

nothing has to be done electronically or reprogrammed in your car... your just basically replacing your stock resonator with a high flow resonator

It depends where you go... Being in close ties with a local muffler shop is a plus

Average labor costs for x-pipe install would be around $60-75. I had mine installed for $45. I have seen where others were charged as high as $100.

You can take your friend's x-pipe and pay for labor in replacing back his stock resonator. Your doing your friend more of a favor than expecting significant savings.

Keep in mind that any competent/ reputable muffler shop can do this in half an hour. If they charge you more than $75 go somewhere else.

whats the difference

whats the difference between the different brands such as magnaflow, flowmaster, jegs and others? its just a hollow pipe which would all have the same sound no matter what brand right. is it just the type of metals used such as stainless allum or whatever. from my experience i think i want stainless. it seems i need a universal narrow xpipe right?

They're all the same... a few come with a chrome finish which you don't really need

Just make sure you get the 2.25 inch inlet/outlet diameter x-pipe

An X pipe balances the sound in a split exhaust system, making it sound more refined and reduces popping on deceleration. The only reason it sounds louder is b/c on an MBZ, it replaces the resonator. If you installed an X pipe on a car with a split exhaust that does not use a resonator, it would not make the car any louder, just more refined sounding. So, the X pipe isn't making the car sound more throaty, the removal of the resonator is. But, if you're going to remove the resonator, the X pipe will sound better than if you just straight pipe the removed resonator, leaving each exhaust bank to flow separately.

yes, the resonator! The X-pipe piece plus some extra pipe will fill in the game of the removed resonator.

Make sure you get the 2.25 diameter (Model # 10790)

Just tell them you want to replace your stock resonator with the X-pipe and they should know what to do. Any decent muffler shop can install it, They just have to weld additional piping since the X-pipe is not long enough. I had mine installed for $45
Hi, i drive a c230 v6. can i install this xpipe ?

This is one mod that I have never really understood. You have a $40,000 car, that you put a $100 part in to make it sound like a $10,000 rice rocket? I think I could get it if the sound wasn't so damn common, but it seems like one out of every 10 cars driven by 18 y/o kids in So Cal sounds like this...to the point it is simply annoying. Maybe it's just a sign I'm getting too old lol. However, to each his own...I'm sure some people would roll their eyes at some stuff I thought was cool.

Maybe I hear something different I agree the Hondas with big fart can sound annoying but to me, my x-pipe with Meisterschaft or even members on here with just the x-pipe doesn't sound the same. Could be the youtube changing the tone all together. In the end though, do what you like.

I have a 2008 C300 and had an XPipe installed today. They removed the resonator as well. Can't say I'm too thrilled. The sound is basically the same. Am I missing something here? Did you guys get different mufflers as well? Any other mods?

Out of curiosity how does this sound around 80mph? Is it louder than stock? If highway speeds make it noisy as hell then that is not very appealing to me.
