Ok seems not all my head is made of cement.
I spoke to tech guy in mb service centre and he told me its called DEADLOCK. Once you lock your door with key while you outside the vehicle, anyone inside the car would be trapped and only way getting out of vehicle is to break the window. I understand PETJE' car which is also EU spec doesn't have this so-called deadlock option. So to conclude, the service centre is either trying to escape from having a look at the car or cars in uk is different from rest of the world. The solution would be trying another uk-spec vehicle,so please share ur experience if u living in uk.

Another intresting point was I thought one of my fog lights is gone but he said new EU law saying only one fog light to be fitted on vehicle's rear lights. Is this same in US too or you have fog light on each side?

I hope the guy is not playing around.... I. Think he is right about fog light as I have seen new cars with only one rear fog light on driver side.

Another round of ICE
There are no U.S. requirements to have fog lights, neither in the front nor rear.

I have locked the car, while my fiance is still in the car and she could open up the door as usual w/o unlocking first. I guess it is something specific for a region or a prod. type?

Maybe MB is trying to kill the Brits in retaliation.

Canadian cars can be opened no matter what from the inside. 2010 and 2011 models.

why don't u all try something out. It will take you about 10 seconds to do and give you something to relate here.

Go sit in your car, close the door and press lock on your keyfob. Now try to press the unlock button of your car NOT ON THE KEY. did it work?

now pull the handle....

It would indeed be interesting if other UK car owners would test if their cars behave the same.

It already became obvious that the US, Canada and several other EU countries have door locks that open from the handle. It might be a UK specific requirement.

I remember years ago Volvo advertised their cars having locks that do not open from inside once locked. If I remember right, this was supposed to add safety against theft, a thief cannot open the doors even if windows were broken. I cannot see how this would make a big difference, at most it protects very big objects being removed from the car.

I said concrete, not cement since it is a powder.

Here's an example of someone (your advice man) that doesn't know when to shut up when he's on a roll.

Rear fog lights have been present on German cars, specifically MB, since at least the early '70s which predates the EU by a tiny bit. And they are always on the driver's side which means whichever side the steering wheel is on.

I have always added two additional brake lights in the fog light positions in my MB's up until the W204 which cannot be done for technical reasons.

So through all of this.

Have you tried pressing the interior unlock button in your UK car?

And while you were at the dealership, did you try testing out one of the cars in the showroom?
