How Bad Is This Bulge?

I hit a huge pot hole the other day (damn SF roads) and now have a bulge in the front tire. At first glance, its not so bad, but I do know that any bulge decreases the ability of the tire and may blow out anytime.

Sad part is that I only have 7400 miles on my car (on these original Contis) so it just seems like a waste to change it.

Just wanted thoughts, hopefully you guys can get a feel from the pictures. If not, I can retake at a different angle. I want to see if I can hold out as long as possible, seeing as how I dont expect the contis to last a very long time. I guess I want to hear that its not so bad....

crappy iphone pics.

Another round of ICE
Put on your spare now or only slow city driving until you can. The good news is that now you can get some, as in 4, really good tires. Tirerack.com ships pretty quickly.

The internal cords have given way & are severley damaged. High speed driving will give you a passport to heaven .

That's pretty bad....just get a new tire and save yourself from the eventual blowout.

Doesn't look terrible but I wouldn't risk wheel damage over it. Best to get it changed asap.

From personal experience, these bent metal bands can last pretty long. I had a FEW tire bubbles on my BMW 08 535xi and drove it for a few months with no problem. It was a lease that was about to end so I just returned it in that condition

I'm pretty sure I got lucky though

It's not that bad. Change it as soon as you can but don't lose sleep over it.

Good on you Josh .

IMHO ,knowingly driving on a tyre that has a sidewall bulge is irresponsible & a negligent act.

If you cause a crash & another person is injured or worse it is not an accident but manslaughter.

The last few comments posted on this subject beg belief.

Looks like those 18" AMG wheels took the pothole well.

should change it ASAP. The other day, I hit the curb so badly that all the four wheels climbed up to the curb. Even the undercarriage was hit, fortunatelly the whole car remains fine after a dealership inspection. About the SF road, I dont like them either-- way too many pot holes. I used to hang around in SF a lot, and everytime I was there I prayed with my fingers and legs crossed.lol

Agreed.

What if yours behaved differently than the others on this thread and you totally lost control of your car and crash. Would it have been worth it?

I had this exactly a couple of months ago. Ignored it for a little while and then on the freeway KABLOOM! It scared the SH## out of me cause it was so loud. Good thing traffic came to a slow and then it popped. I was going like 5-10 MPH. Can't imagine what would've happened if 65+MPH.

I see people with blowouts on the side of the freeway EVERYDAY!! Avoid this and get it changed!

Did you purchase the tire and wheel protection package with the car? If so MB will replace the tire for free
