Well, I can't defend what happened as the best idea but I am quite sure there were no injuries involved in jumping a curb and taking out a sign.

I would never want to race a Maxima to 60 or quarter mile, etc as that 3.7 VQ is a beast of a motor. Of course, it is heavy, front wheel drive car and has that souless CVT transmission to drag it off the line. Unless you are power braking, it has some slop to take up before it hooks up. Anyhow, are you sure your rear drive 3.5 couldn't beat the front drive 3.7 to 25mph?

I dunno about the 3.7, but the older 3.5 Maximas that didn't have CVTs. They were torquey down low and would take the jump to 25. I don't know about the new ones.

The Maxima may still be a 3.5 but they do have the CVT now. I had a 96 with the 3.0 190HP engine and a manual trans. I loved the motor as it was smoother on the top end before they bored it out so large. That car was a bit hard to hook up as well but fast nonetheless.

Anyhow, hopefully both the Maxima driver and I came away with another lesson in how not to act...but it seems it may cost him a bit more for the lesson...

Im glad that nobody got seriously hurt There will always be douchebags in the road which ever place you live...

If you want to test your patience/ tolerance in driving... Try 405 in LA, That's the only place where I saw 2 cars side by side fit in the same lane like it was nothing

OP, if that driver is gang related..let's hope he didn't get your license plate number..
as far as what happened...it is not your fault...you can't control how he drives...
besides, he maybe intoxicated for all we know..

reckless, excessive speed, speed contest, or good ol' racing are good choices for the po-po here in VA

what you did is an easy bust for "speed contest" he in VA, because that's what it was. And you don't have to reach a certain speed, reach a certain gear, or change lanes to be "racing."

now, off the soapbox and on to....

Congrats on a job well done, a job I would never be able to pull off. If it had been me, he would have changed lanes into my passenger seat.

Stop trying to scare the OP. He is not wrong for what he did. The bottom line is, he was going straight in a turning lane only and thats why he hit the pole. OP is not obligated by law to let him in. While it may not have been safe, even if there was a witness that called up, they would have no proof for it. And I doubt that anyone got your license plate, and even if they did, the cops wouldn't do anything about it. Enjoy your day! You did him a favor.

I don't understand why people are saying that he was wrong. How is doing what he did wrong. The other drivers was cutting ppl off and all that could have been a woman with kids in a car and he didn't care so why should sportstick care if he made him crash which I don't think he did. He was clearly teaching him a lesson and giving him a taste of his own medicine.
