Going by memory, I mixed up the prices. Looking at the invoice, the Mann cabin air filter (204 830 00 18) price is $18.88. It is the same filter the car came with. It's the oil filter kit that is $15.19 each. It's the same required polyester fleece filter that the dealers charge more for.

@dansonchan: I live in an eastern-european country where the air quality is pretty low, lots of dust and pollution. I do most of the car maintenance operations by myself because I enjoy it.
Based on experience, I have come to the conclusion that the engine air filter needs to be changed once per year and the cabin air filter twice per year, otherwise the filters become clogged.
I drive about 6000 miles per year.
LE: Also, I have experimented both charcoal-covered and simple cabin air filters and I didn't notice any difference in efficiency or removal of unpleasant odours. I pretty much think the charcoal thing is a small "scam".
And there is one more thing: for my car, I have bought both OEM (Ford - Motorcraft) and aftermarket (Mann) cabin air filters. The funny thing is that the OEM filter has a rigid plastic frame while the Mann after-market option has a flimsy cardboard frame. The OEM filter is only about 25 % more expensive but it fits better and there is less risk of it breaking or deforming at installation time.

Combination air filyer
every two years 18 bucks.
Engine air filter maint manual calls for the set of two ($33) every four years.
Conditions needing shorter periods noted.
If you need to change your cabin air filter twice a year, move or you will die sooner than the car.
