E550 or SLK55??

I'm thinking about getting a new Benz (I'm not getting rid of the C just yet) and I've got about $65k to spend. I'm thinking between the E550 and the SLK55. I told myself my next car would be an AMG I know, but the E class AMG is about $100k and I couldn't swing it without getting rid of the C (though it might be worth it just for the black wood detail only available on the AMG). I'm thinking if I buy the E 550, I will fall out of love with the C and eventually trade it in, and I can pickup maybe the 2012 SLK but that's definitely a more costly plan. I'd like to save up $200k to throw at something exotic like the Italia 458 or Gallardo Spyder in the next 4 years or so, but if I keep buying a new Benz every year that will never happen! I'd love to just push it off until the 2012 SLK is available but the wife is hating her 2006 BMW 330i (thanks to the C class!) and wants something else like yesterday.

2 very different cars that you can't really compare. Do you want/need a bigger car and extra space or do you want a nice, fun roadster to cruise around in. If you have a C and your wife has a 330i I don't really see the need of adding another sedan. If you're getting rid of the C then I can see going with the E550...if not I'd go with the SLK55

We're getting rid of the BMW and I've already got the NSX that I barely ever drive. I got in it two days ago to drive it to the dealership to get the A pillar 2fast2furious boost gauges removed and the battery was dead because I hadn't driven it in so long.. either way we've got a sedan and a roadster. I'll be honest, I'm leaning towards the E for that simple reason, though I imagine the SLK would be a lot more fun to drive than the E class.

Yeah, thanks for posting that. I must have been looking at a 2010 at the dealership.. but apparently they will be launching the redesign in March 2011, and they will be available by the summer. Maybe I can hold her off on getting rid of the BMW until March, and then put in an order... if I can do that, then the debate is pretty much settled.

Never have been a fan of the SLK...a little too "stumpy" for me. The E Couple would be my choice hands down.

Honestly...I've been in love with the SLK55 since I first saw it. A small, burly roadster..smaller than a Civic..with a V8? Something about it just screams pure sex to me. That's my opinion though. The E550 is damn sexy as well though...

Did you catch the Top Gear episode comparing the SLK AMG vs. the Boxter S? Sounds like you would enjoy that one.

Well, I showed her the leaked SLK video from France, and told her it will be premiering at the autoshow in March, but if she's willing to hold out until the summer we can get the new SLK and her response was "whatever you want". Next car.. ///AMG! I'm debating European delivery only because we will be on vacation in Dubai Feb-Mar and time off etc. We'll see if I can pull it off. Thanks for the feedback everyone!

Well, I might have just made a left-field decision. I found an '08 white AMG CLS 63 that is low mileage CPO'd and just over $60k. I might buy that, hand the wifey the C class to drive, and wait for a CPO'd '12 SLK 55 a few years down the line. I don't exactly like the idea of buying a CPO instead of ordering it from the factory and being the original owner.. but if it means I can afford to swap out my garage for a CLS 55 AMG and SLK 55 AMG, I'm willing to make that concession.

Question, if you have all this money, why did you settle for the entry level 330i and C350 to begin with?

SLK is an extremely undesirable car for my personal tastes, and the E-Coupe can be nice, but isn't to my tastes as much as the more stately, and mature/masculine designed Sedan.
The CLS 63 seems like the winner to me as well. That's a sweet ride!
