Please Help with Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500
I'm getting some 18x8.5 wheels and was wondering if i should go with 225 or 235 tires. I currently have 17" wheels and it rides smooth n perfect. I wanna keep the same ride.
I'm guessing that the 235 40 has more width and a little bit of a bigger sidewall than the 225 correct?
I also don't want the tire to be thinner than the wheel. Since I've never seen either tire on an 8.5 wheel, I'm asking for some help here.
For the price I think the Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500 would be the best tires. The price difference is:
225/40 R18 92W BSW.........$461 shipped
and
235/40 R18 95W BSW.......$575 shipped.
The price difference isn't that big of a deal. Just want to make sure they are not going to rub anywhere.
Thanks in advance for the input.

Firestone Wideoval Indy 500
The Wideoval Indy 500 225/40R18 works with 7.5 – 9.0 rim widths; 235/40R18 uses 8.0 – 9.5 rim widths. The best fit for your 18x8.5 wheel is the 235/40R18 and is about 0.4” wider and has a bit taller sidewall (0.32”) than the 225/40R18. However, you are doing the a Plus Size 1 (from 17” to 18” tires) and unless I know the specific 17” tires the vehicle came with, it would be tough to determine if 225/40R18 or 235/40R18 tires will really fit and not rub the wheelwell. I know that Bridgestone/Firestone has a policy that the change in overall tire diameter from the OE size (17”) to the replacement tire size (18”) should be no more than +-3.0%.

235 will fit fine & not rub with the correct offset wheels - i.e stay close to standard offset. They will not foul the front strut which you have to watch.
Important - You must select the profile correctly. Look at your standard tyres & compare revs per mile on the Tirerack specs page with the revs per mile of the tire you wish to move to. You must keep the rolling circumference as close to standard as possible - say within 1.5 to 2%. This will keep speedo - ESP & all happy.
If you have to go to a 35 profile to achieve this then do that. I don't know your stock set up.
