Absolutely agree! Also, I've had my V1 for about a dozen years or more and when I check the V1 site for an upgrade, it says I can do it but maybe it's not worth it (they don't even try to push you into it ). The main difference is the newer ones are a slight bit thinner.

2009 Arctic White/Black C350 with NAV pkg, ipod integration, 40% HO tint, and 18" 5-spoke AMG wheels
I have had three Passport detectors, with my current one being the 9500ix, which I really like. If I had wanted to spend more money, I would have chosen a hidden install one, but the 9500ix really has been great as it alerts me to speed cameras, red light cameras, lasers (although that just basically tells me i'm about to get a ticket), and radar. The best part is that the unit can be updated with new camera and red light info and I receive notifications via email when new cameras and red lights are added to my area. I do wish it had the directional arrows the V1 had though...when it goes off I have to put my head on a swivel

I decided to move my V1 from the front bumper to the rear center headrest. Here are some pics from the front bumper install:

Center headrest V1 install:

1) Remove headrest from the car and then remove the cover from the headrest.
2) Remove the plastic base from the foam.
3) Break out the dremel.
4) Dremel and test fit.
5) Dremel and test fit.
6) Dremel and test fit.
7) Dremel and test fit.
8) The metal posts are a little too narrow for the V1 to fit between and must be cut or grinded to make space. Repeat steps 4 through 7.
9) Drill a hole in the side of the plastic for the power cord to fit through.
10) Drill a hole in the side of the metal post to feed the power cord through.
11) Test fit in the car and repeat steps 4 through 7 until the V1 sits level.

12) Feed the power cable through the plastic hole, through the metal hole and out the bottom of the post.
13) With a razor blade cut out a hole in the front and back of the foam portion of the headrest.
14) Test fit and adjust.
15) Recover the headrest.
16) Optional - feel the location of the rear laser detector window and cut an "X" with the razor blade.

17) Fold the cut "X" back and tuck in to reveal the laser detector window.
18) Fit the headrest back into the seat.
19) I decided to remove the back of the seat hoping that it would give me access to run the cable. WRONG... Bad decision too as it is a major pain to put back on properly. Using a staightend metal coat hanger, fish the coat hanger through the post hole to the bottom of the seat where the foam is. Its a little difficult, but with a pair of plyers, pull the end of the coat hanger out. Tape the power cable to the coat hanger and pull through the seat. I think you can pull the bottom portion of the seat back out leaving the rest attached and grab the coat hanger.
20) Put the seat back together.
21) My seats fold down. Not sure if this would be easier or harder in models that do not fold down.

22) Guide the power cable along the bottom side of the seat to the door sill.
23) Run the power cable to where you need it. In my case, I ran it to my Mid City Engineering module beneath the driver's door sill.
24) Put everything back together and test.
25) Realize that the power cable you used doesn't work...
26) Pull it all apart. Get a new cable. Repeat steps 12 through 24. Works.
