Paint chips...resolved

This probably belongs in the detailing area and may have been posted about prior, but I am not sure how many of you actually look in that area, and I really think this is something everyone would benefit from.

I had a couple paint chips in my passenger rear door (pics attached) - I purchased the Dr.Colorchip repair kit and was completely satifised with the results on the door. I then proceeded to spent about an hour hitting every tiny little thing I could find in the front bumper area, no pics, but phenominal results as well.

I also purchased a kit for my wife's Silver RX, the results were great also, but it appears to me that darker colored cars would have the best results, based on my 2 vehicles (Silver and Steel Gray).

The steps are simple and there are video examples on the Dr. Colorchip site. If you have chips or small scratches, I recommend this product - reply with any questions...

Might have to try this. Does it affect the clearcoat in any way?

This is what my hood looks like..

It does not effect the clearcoat, after completing the 2nd step there is only paint remaining in the chip, not on the paint surrounding, and the area buffs up nice with a simple microfiber towel.

C300 - Make sure to follow the instruction to "smear" or "smooth out" the paint quickly after applying to each chip, it will make the 2nd step much easier - Also *** do not use pressure in step 2, let the blending solution do its job, just lightly press and continue sweeping back and forth, it will come off nicely***

BTW - the link above that takes you to a Lexus forum has a good DIY instructions in the initial post.

Thanks and did you order the basic kit? How much surface area do you think the basic kit will cover??...the website says the small bottle will cover around a dozen chips...I have hundreds of chips on the hood..

I ordered the basic kit for 39 bucks for each car - There is more than enough paint in this kit to do 100 chips, the thing is you get a small amount (1/2 ounce) of the blending solution which is a key component for the final finishing step - You should order the next size kit (I think it was 49 bucks) if you have that many chips...

What is causing all that damage to your hood? Stop tailgating man... ;-)

I wish the chip on my windshield was on my paint instead. I'd totally try this!

Ya, unfortunately there's construction all along my commute so the front end gets hammered by everything imaginable(dodged a 2x4 the other day). Eventually I'll have to repaint the hood, but the bumper and fenders aren't that bad.
