It's true that pot holes can hurt any tire, but I agree, I've had a lot of trouble with these tires. Currently having a new one put on actually for a rear passenger that just blew out on me.

Conti's Sport Contact range & derivatives have always had weak sidewalls

I agree with you that Continental Contact sports have weak sidewalls. My friend with a 2008 C350 has 2 huge bubbles on his front tires from potholes. They are ready to blow at any minute.

My friend GT has long been an M3 owner, at least two to my knowledge. Last month he went in to look at a possible purchase of a 335I. He said he was so disappointed in the whole car but particularly the interior that he walked out.
So, he ended up buying an Infiniti G37 and he loves it. But, he told the dealer in Palm Springs that he required a certain wheel they offer and if the car came with Continentals he would refuse delivery. It's on Michelins.

They make bubbles because they only have ONE ply in the sidewall. When you buy low profile tires always buy tires with two plies in the sidewall. I have a tire shop and the continental always make bubbles more often than other brands.

I think the new car is on Michelin Primacy which he says is OK.
I've hit some hellish city-owned chuckholes and my Bridgestone RE 050A PPs have laughed them off. So far.
Although after the last one (after dark) it was such an impact that the doors unlocked. It's steering normally but I'm going to ask my dealer to get it up and count the suspension parts this week when it's in for some software version checks.

Continental tires failing? Gee, I can't understand it, I've called Continental and they told me they are "soooo gut"...
I still carry the spare, virgin, and if I ever declare an emergency within the next three years I might even use it to get to a tire shop.
The other four I had to replace in pairs when one blew up the first day I drove the car out of the dealership, and the other some weeks later developed a bubble. Now, over a year since, I am enjoying the Yoko V550s I used as replacement.
They really chose the name. To me between Continentals and real tires there is the same abyss as between Continental and American or British breakfasts.

Did they change to the Continentals in 2010?
My 09 is on michelins.
I've had my fair share of blowouts, but almost any tire would have collapsed at that point I'd imagine.
Gone through about 4 replacement tires and two rims (which they would only replace when they started leaking air). Just sliced one sidewall open about two weeks ago on a metal curb that had come detached from the sidewalk...
At 55k I don't think I have a single tire that was replaced due to normal wear....
All rims/tires replaced free of charge with the safeguard tire/wheel protection package.
Except this last one they didn't include $120 of labor in the refund check. First time I had to wait for reimbursement too... Previously, the dealer would replace free of charge and be reimbursed by safeguard.
