HELP! Side Marker Installation

Purchased some clear side markers for my 2011 C 300. Thought the installation would be a snap (litterally) Just pry out the old and snap in the new. NADA. It seems that the protective housing on the inside of the side bumper is just floating there. It requires the pressure from the side marker to hold it in place. Everytime I try to snap in the new side marker it seems to go in but it is real loose. Tried holding the housing with a wire hanger and even fashioned a hook with some dental floss to hold the housing still, so all the snaps would go into place. Does anybody know what the trick is to getting this side marker on?? I would think it would be relative easy since there is a light inside and it would periodically need replacement and MBZ would make it relatively easy for replacement.

You have to turn the wheel your doing the side on to the inside to access the wheel well. You have to take out the three plastic pins that hold the wheel well in place and this will give you access to the inner part of the bumper where you switch it out. Just changed mine yesterday.. took 10 minutes total.. search the threads, i'm pretty sure there is a DIY on this...

Thanks!m That was the trick. I looked at that possibility to taking off the fender well or bending it back. But when I looked at the snaps that hold it is place, there were no screws just a flat snap. I was concerned that I would have to ruind the snaps to remove them. It seems that you need to work out the center snap and then work out the outer screw snap, Quite easily done with just your fingers. One other question, I was give a set of light bulbs with the markers, but I just put in to stock blub, but it seems quite bright. Did you use the bulbs supplied with the kit? If so, what is the difference between the two bulbs?

Thanks to TanMan350 and Tanktube67 for your help. Put this thread in about 10:40am PST and within 15 minutes had your two answers that exactly answered my question. The operation was a success however had a little problem getting the lens to fit just right into the the slots for a tight fit. Just kept fiddling with it until it snapped together just right. Will experiment with the lights. The bulbs with the kit were chrome looking but when I installed them they gave off a light amber color. Think I like the clear with the bright white bulbs best, we will see. Thanks again for your help!

I wouldn't bother to change the bulb. You need the original amber reflector/cover to avoid a ticket. It is the amber reflector that is required by law, not just an amber bulb. You are breaking the law by changing the reflector, so the bulb doesn't really matter.

true, but i've had led white lights on the sides for 2 years and no tickets yet and i've been pulled over several times (for other reasons).. i guess it depends the state you are in.. i'm in Florida, they are pretty lenient here.. But if your afraid of getting tickets and are in a state that is **** about this, then keep the stock bulbs..

Those chrome looking bulbs that came with your side markers are called stealth bulbs... They still emit an amber light when you use your turn signals but it eliminates the egg yolk color/ effect inside your clear side markers during the day, it looks clear when you look at it from the outside.

Chances of getting a ticket due to using a different colored bulb for your side markers are quite rare except if your draw up a lot of attention at hight when paired with super bright HIDs with a kelvin rating of 8000 or higher
