Hi there! This may be a late response but I think I may be able to help. I recently purchased my c300 and the salesman went into extreme detail with that light knob, lol.. I remember him saying something about when the dial is turned to a specific feature it would light up the markers on the car..he said this was useful if you were parked on a corner and wanted to make sure your car would not be hit in the event someone couldn't see it. He said the position to leave it in for everyday was the 'A' that a few people on here had suggested.. Hope this helps.. N

In the case of my wife's car, it would flicker the eyelid (not turn turn signal, which is what turns on for parking lights) when turned to 0 (off).
Maybe if you turn off the automatic light feature through the instrument cluster it will fix the problem. By default, the car always has the lights on automatic mode, even if you turn the dial to off.

Didn't Mike or someone else have a post saying that if they are improperly installed I.E. pushed too far into the connector they will malfunction. I know I read that somewhere but forgot who said it....

That is true (as with all open circuitry LEDs), but usually they'd last only 1-2 months if they were improperly installed. After 8 months, they should be good unless they somehow got accidently bumped in somehow. If they did malfunction after 8 months, I already offered to warranty them.

I've had this issue happen again, ugh. Car wash folks must have accidently set it to 0 instead of A. I didn't catch it until this morning and of course the eyelid must have came on during the night. It ran the battery out unfortunately and roadside assistance deemed the battery as dead, needing replacement (for free luckily)
Has anyone else out there had this issue and found the root cause?

Had a tech check it out, brought it to the dealership. Looks like there's a service bulletin to fix the light switch, which resolves this exact issue. Working with MBUSA to try and get it covered under warranty since the car is over 50,000 miles now. Glad to finally find the root cause

Had one last follow up on this. I did find out that defective light switches (the rotary knob) will drain the battery in the 0 position. I dug up info in MB's TIPS database. Dealer is fixing it free of charge. Here's the full summary of the issue:
- Battery discharged, vehicle does not start -
Topic number LI54.10-P-054089
Version 2
Design group 54.10 Battery, voltage supply, voltage converter
Date 09-13-2012
Validity Models: 204; 207; 212 (rotary light switch with zero position)
Reason for change Validity adapted
Complaint Battery discharged, vehicle does not start.
Cause Rotary light switch sending wrong signal after ignition OFF.
Remedy
1) Read out fault roll of battery sensor (IBS). 2) If the following entries are present: è Power consumption by standing lights or parking lights è Power consumption by low beams then this is an indication of a faulty rotary light switch. 3) Replace rotary light switch.
Symptoms
Symptom Overall vehicle / Power supply / Battery/On-board electrical system / Battery function / Battery discharges Overall vehicle / Power supply / Battery/On-board electrical system / Battery/on-board electrical system display message / Low voltage Switch off consumers
