ipod/phone cable extension, does it exist?
I just want to run a cable extension from the glovebox to somewhere where I don't have to put the damn phone in the glovebox (come on MB, that's just silly). So I bought this cable (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=180632973970) but when I plug it into my iphone it says "this accessory does not support charging, etc. Really pissed me off because the auction states pretty clearly that it does. Does such an extension cable exist?

Your car should not support charging without the extension cable. You would need a Pass-n-Charge or similar device to get charging for the iPhone going.

actually when I plug the iphone into the plug in the glove compartment, not only does it charge but it pairs to the car and I can play songs off the ipod function of it using the steering wheel and dash controls. that cable is just too short and I want to be able to put it somewhere within an easy reach. The cable from that auction would have been ideal if it worked. Are there any other extension cables out there?

Ahhh, I was in too big a hurry and did notice your car was a 2011. It will charge the phone in factory system (earlier systems would not). Looks like you got a cheap knock off cable. There are some extenders out there, but not for $6. They cost about $30 typically.

I've bought two extension cables from Amazon - both were $20 plus. I used a white one to route from my glove box (I have a 2009 C63 but I retrofitted the enhanced media interface into the car), above the passenger side foot well panel, then into the center console. When I installed the euro console top, I drilled a hole so I could get the cable into the console bin. The 6' cable I used was just long enough to stick out of the console top, so I bought a 20" or so long black cable which I plugged into the other extension cable, and that hooks to my iPhone 4. Works fine with the MIP as well.
I have the 2' version of the cable linked above from CableJive. I like the idea of having a separate cable because it will take the wear and tear and I can replace it easily without having to route a wire through the console again. It saves the wear and tear on the cable which I installed through the console as well. Food for thought if anyone wants to install through their console.

Here's what I have:
A 6' cable will work, however since I installed mine through my console I did not want to wear out the end which would force me to take the console apart to replace the cable. So I bought two cables. A 4' cable is enough to run from the glove box to the console bin, and it will stick out the top by about 4". If using the cable out of the glove box, a 4' cable is more than enough. The cables I linked above are the exact ones I'm using, and even connected together I have had no issues what-so-ever.

Here's what I bought to get iPhone/iPod to charge and play iTunes via the charging connector and aux-in in the glove box:
http://tw.page.bid.yahoo.com/tw/auction/f24069723
Sorry, this is in Chinese; but basically it's a cable with one end splitting into two: one for aux-in connection and one with USB connector that you can further attach an auto charger (i.e. the Belkin charger shown in the auction) to.
This solution works pretty well in my car; audio is louder than connecting audio-out to aux-in directly.
Cost of the cable shown is NT 99 or roughly USD 3.50; Belkin charger is about USD 5.
Hope the above helps~

Jun- Thanks, my plan is to use this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Dock-Cradle-Appl...item1e62ef4c02
and put it where the ashtray was, then wire the headphone output to the input in the glovebox so I can listen to pandora, and then the extension cord to the ipod input in the glovebox so I can use it for the ipod using the dash controls.
This way I'll have a nice charging station/docking station that's hidden when I want it to be, along with the ability to play pandora

The extenders don't work. Tried two of them and that money was wasted. Got some 6FT cables from http://www.flsuperstore.com/servlet/...ONG-USB/Detail and they work fine.

Just got the jive 6 ft extended cable from amazon for the iphone 4. Works for about 30 seconds and then tells me that the phone is not charging and then disconnects. I dont know if its the cable itself or what but I have been looking for a solution for 2011 ML350 for a while now
