Raced a modded G37!
I was driving my brothers c300 from Jersey back to NY and this G37 pulls up next to me. He wants to have a few runs so I give in even though I knew the c300 didn't have enough power. The first run was from 40-120 and the second was 70-130. Both times the C pulled about half a car away. I was shocked all my brother has is x-pipe which in no gain in hp. He had a tune, chip, air filters, and exhaust. Not only was I surprised but so was he. He asked how much power I had, when I told him, he hit his head on the steering wheel lol. Crazy right, any explanation to why a c300 with 228 hp can beat a modded G37?

That, and also if he uses regular gas, the g37 I had responded TERRIBLY to regular gas. I guess it had a really high compression ratio as it would knock like crazy and have terrible power output on regular gas. It was actually so bad that it would be dangerous in parking lots as it would do undesired lurching and downshfits - causing some close calls with cars in other marked stalls. Needless to say I stopped using regular gas after 2 fillups.
But I am still surprised that the c300 "beats" the g37 from a roll. Sometimes when I do some similiar runs such as turning on to a quiet road in my neighborhood around 30MPH and I gun it right away, the transmission in 2nd seems to start at 4,000 or so RPM and it is a SWEET pull spot. I didn't "feel" like it was any slower than my g37 that used to do the same runs, at the same speeds, etc; and was quite surprised. It seems you have confirmed my feelings.
However, I must caution - If you come across a manual g37 the story would be very different - and if you do a drag race from a dig (0 MPH) the outcome would also be very different. But I am TRUELY surprised with how "well" the c300 does with such low HP numbers, with only an x-pipe and a tune and K&N Filters.

I used to have a G37 coupe for 2 years (got it the day it came out) and I will explain to you why this may have happened. The first model year 2008 if you got an automatic was a crappy 5-speed. The g37 does great from a stand still, but when going from a roll - it doesn't downshift quite enough to give a OOOMPH and really pull you like the c300's 7-speed. It just didn't feel like a 330HP car when flooring on the highway or when flooring it at any speed above 40MPH, no matter in D/S or automanual.

It just looks a little too edgy for me. Plus the dealership wasn't allowing me to test drive it. The only thing I didn't like about the M5 was the weight but it was very powerful. Talk about snapping your neck

The M5 is a great car though - but its not an F10 model right? I don't think those came out yet...

I see where you are coming from, but I think that's what I like about it, especially how the cts-v coupe looks so different and distinct. At first I thought it was ugly, but it definitely has grown on me. If I ever stumble upon an extra $60k I would definitely seriously consider picking one up.

I was also looking at the gti because of everything basically well except room of course. A fully loaded one, manual for around 30k is not bad for a brand new one. Anyways i was wondering how do you like it? Do you have the new one or old? Any feedback would be appreciated. Sorry i know this is off topic. ![off topic](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/ot.gif)

I have the 2011 GTI, fully loaded. I do like it, idk if you have ever driven a VW but the DSG is very smooth. The ride itself is a bit rough coming off a mercedes but overall is it a nice car. The navigation is better than the Mercedes navigation, seats are fairly comfortable and comfortable and even though I never put people in the back, I have fit back there with the way I keep my seat. I'm 6'3 and I like my seat way back there and believe it or not, it had more space than the w204. There is more headroom because of the height of the car. It is an enjoyable car.

I've raced a g37s in my 350 long ago and pulled on him easily, I hear MB under rates their cars alot. And it could be that infiniti over rates? Just like the gt-r can only get certain numbers i dyno mode that breaks warranty?

yea it actually is quite fast off the line but then it slows down a bit. Compared to the c300, it stays leveled until around 60 then the c starts to pull away. Handling is really good too.

the guy probably smoked some weed and forgot to press the gas. Theres NO way a stock C300 even a RWD is gonna touch a G37 no matter what. I know alot of guys on here claim to race all kinds of stuff but I raced just about every car in my last C350 which was modded. Theres alot of cars out there faster, including a G35 stock, rolling or standstill. I beat alot of cars off the line cause I know how to launch well, most just slam the gas, but your not pulling from a G37, been there done that many times in my last C350 modded. The 2011 seems faster, but Im in break in period so Im not sure yet. Around my way old guys in newer muscle cars, euros, whatever wanna race, just about everyone F's around in my parts
