Tire purchase advice
Hey All,
I'm gonna have to replace my rear tires soon and was wondering what opinions you guys have about only changing 2 tires instead of all 4.
Also any good decently priced tire suggestions?
Running 19x8.5 front by 19x9.5 rear
235/35/19 front by 255/30/19 rear
Eagle F1 Assymmetric
thx!

if you don't track or have the need to burn your tires on every street, I would highly recommend Hankook Ventus V12's.
to put it simply, it's the best bang for the buck! Hankook is also holding a $60 rebate promotion if you buy a set of 4. Try using the search function, I saw many many threads like this in the past couple months.
Hope this helps.

First, I would always replace tires in sets of 4. Otherwise, you are creating different handling/braking characteristics in the front versus the rear due to differences in treadwear, and not helpful ones!
As to tires, we all have favorites based on individual preference, experience and driving style. Before knowing what is right for you, you need to decide your priorities....handling/steering, quiet, comfort, wet performance, some ability to handle light snow, etc?
You can glean a tremendous amount of information by going to tirerack.com and studying the test results and surveys for the different categories of tires, from standard hold-me-up-off-the-road all the way to the highest end summer only performance tires.
Once you can make your priorities clear, some of us can give more specific recommendations, but take the time to study the available information.

Thanks for the input guys. Really appreciate it!
Replacing all 4 tires would be ideal but I'd be dropping close to $800 for tires. I'd rather replace the 2 rears as my 2 front tires have a good amount of life left in them (50% >)
I actually have a buddy who works for Hankook tires and I have a wholesale account for tirerack as well. They still cost a good amount but no tax & a wholesale rate helps haha.
My preferences are definitely quite, comfort & wet performance. I'm in San Francisco so we get no snow but we get rain and I don't drive reckless at all. I bought the car itself just to drive comfortably but after adding rims / coilovers I'm starting to lose that quite/comfort. I'd like to go with something that'll last awhile as well as the above mentioned for preferences. The Eagle F1's I have now have only lasted about 2 years (< 15k miles)
I'll do some research over at tirerack. I never really payed any attention to the surveys, only read the reviews and ratings.

+1 on the continental DWS. great all around tire, lasts decently too for the money. I have falken 452's on the carlsson wheels I just put on and Im liking them alot. theyre quiet and handle well even in rain. Theyre not bad at like 200 or less for 19s. Another good budget tire is sumitomo zr3. I had them twice on my last benz great bang for the buck and I got 20k plus miles out of them.

Michelin Sport A/S Plus are superb! I first replaced my rears last fall since they were shot and the fronts were still fine (very good actually). Just replaced the fronts a week ago and what a difference, a much smoother ride up front! The Michellin A/S Plus absorb minor bumps, cracks in the road, potholes much better and of course they handle very very well. I do have worse gas mileage though :o( Possibly due to the stickiness of the new tires? There is increased rolling resistance I'm guessing, eh?
I don't think there's any problem replacing just the rears first, the C350 especially eats through rear tires much much faster and I had not problem running two different tire styles, both were Michelin though.

I'm a Toyo T1R guy on all my cars. Great tires. Was about to replace my rubbers, but my contact at Toyo told me they're coming out with a new line in July that would trump T1Rs and to wait if I could. Might be worth taking a look at.

I'd recommend conti DW, as they handle great and are quiet. The DWS are a lil harder for the snow and rougher. DW would be perfect for San Fran, especially since it will be summer soon.
