Electical circuit question, Help por favor
Hey guys,
I'm trying to wire up some of those cheapo ebay LED DRLs in the place of my fog lights.
Why though, when I wire them directly to the positive and negative of the fog connection do they not turn on?
The first time i hooked them up i got a couple blinks at uneven intervals - and now, nothing.
I assumed some resistors would be necessary to make the error messages go away, but do I need them in line to light up in the first place??
Has anyone done this and know how to get them to work?

I may be wrong, but the wiring I saw a while back had a 3rd wire for the turn on lead. basically theres a negative and positive, and a switching leg. post pictures of the wiring off the LED strips. If you got the hockey stick ones I would replace the fogs. If you got strips I would run them off the battery w a switch in the car somewhere and mount them separately under the headlights or fog grilles, or whatever. You know you can seperate the headlight cover out of the assembly, and alot of tuner shops do this and mount inside in lots of euro cars. look on some sites for ideas, Ive seen some really nice ones

Didnt figure the wiring out, however I'm going to tap into the side marker circuit today and see if that works any better.
Here's a pic of the grille i conjured up. Looks a little hacky under 3 feet away, but if youre standing up and a few feet back it looks pretty good.
Also - that is just a spare bumper, not the one on my car.

Alright, Great success! For anyone wanting to do this, it cost in total 36 dollars.
Things needed:
Ebay DRLs
some mesh grill from home depot, 6 dollars for 8 feet
some plyable plastic, I used an extra lid of a storage tote
I wired them to the side markers. I get no Errors for having the fogs unplugged.
Anyway, thats about it. It's not an easy DIY, you need to have some tools at your disposal and be a little creative.. It turned out pretty well though, I'm happy with it for how little I spent.

yeah I clipped the wire and soldered in a connector to each wire so it can be unclipped if I want.

Overall, I like them. I wish the color was down more around 5000k but either way I'll take it.

I would think the way to go is to not cut any wire, just wire it to the battery with a relay to an accesory if its a 3 wire w remote lead, if its 2 wire then jump off something always on. This way the LEDs are on by themselves during the day without need of the parking lights. will look much more authentic like the newer E class or like the 2011 C. It looks like you painted metal lath black and used plastic behind it? They do sell bendable mesh on ebay and theres also a set of these on mesh already for the luxury models you could dremel a little and make perfect fit. Let us know in a few days if the errors ever pop up for the fogs, I had mine out on my 2008 when it broke waiting to pick up a new one from dealer and I had errors stating bad bulb even when it was unhooked completely...........good little rig job tho bro.........jimmy
