Magnaflow, Xpipe, Messing with Exhaust in general - performance gain?
Title says it all - is there a performance gain in doing any of these mods, or is it just for the better sound at higher revs?

only way would be to find out on your own. dyno before and after. but everytime i've worked on the exhaust on my cars, it's always been with the intention for just a better sound.
you'd have to start with a full system of an intake, headers, x pipe, and exhaust to feel a difference

you should notice a better pull from the line and a much better response for overpassing on the freeway. Worth the $? I personally don't think so

get yourself a pair of magnaflows and it will be louder. Mine were really loud the first 300 miles, now they quieted down but are louder and more aggressive than stock. they quiet up in the upper RPMs, so if you do an xpipe and magnaflows you have it all the way thru the RPMs. Theyre not too expensive just get the smallest ones they have in 2.25" with dual offset ends, the smaller the louder the muffler

After spending a few weeks on the Benz boards (Here and BenzWorld) I knew the first mod I would do when I bought my C300 was the X-pipe. Being that I was basing this on recommendations found on the Net, I wasn't 100% sure it would turn out as I hoped, but I went for it.
All I can say is WOW! It was every bit what people who had done the mod said it was. To the "T". No power gain, no loss of power or torque, just a sweet, sweet sound. Right where you would want it to be. No droning exhaust sound when you are cruising at steady throttle, but when you put he peddle down a very nice growl at about 3,000 RPM all the way through to about 4,500 RPM.
Kinda sounds like a baby Ferrari. You can get it to growl on start up if you hold the throttle wide open or rev it up about three times in succession. I love the fact that the interior noise at cruising is just about as quite as stock, but when you want to make it growl, you can.
Thanks to everyone who said to do it. By far the best bang for the buck mod I have done on any car I have owned...

The X for $85. Muffs right at $100 ea. All you're going to get is db increase. Headers, now that's different. How much you'll get out of tubes (headers) on this little engine I don't know but I've spoken with several tuners and none of them have said there was anything to gain by changing to an X or Mufflers. If you want the sound I was told the X - pipe was the cheapest way to go.

lol baby ferrari ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
thanks for the info so far guys. so if x pipe and muffler doesnt add any power gain, what is the power gain from changing headers and how much would that cost?
not related, but my logic right now is to go for the aesthetic mods but not the power gain, because power gain = lower fuel efficiency as well. since its a daily driver and i enjoy my daily driving which eats up gas dollars anyway, i figure i can instead of doing power gains like ECU tune wait to buy a nice weekend car
down the line haha

Everyone knows the recipe for a baby ferrari is to start with a Smart Diablo then add a little Ferrari body kit
