Im not sure if it can come off easily but i just used 3M 471 vinyl tape and put it over it. It came out great! I think regular vinyl electrical tape is the same as 471....just not as wide

I haven't taken mine off yet but it looks to me like the upper chrome trim also works as a channel to divert rain water (for example) away from the windows and out through in front and behind the doors.

If that is the case, you're looking at a number of different possible problems by leaving it off.

Any tips on vinyl wrapping the upper chrome trim as I found it difficult to wrap the lower chrome trim?

A heat gun or hair dryer helps alot so you can stretch the vinyl... work about 6" sections at a time and get atleast 2" vinyl tape and maybe an extra pair of hands

Thanks for the video. My chrome is getting covered in vinyl tomorrow. I wonder if it will be done on or off the car.

Good job! I would stay away from Plasti and either vinyl wrap them or have it anodized!

Plasti dip held up better than the vinyl. I have had no problems with the Plastidip. Great stuff!

I'm new to this but want to remove the chrome trim to paint it black or I guess vinyl wrap it. My question is that how do you vinyl wrap? I've searched the forums for possible DIY for vinyl wrapping the chrome trim but couldn't find any. Is it just buying vinyl tape and then literally taping over the trim?

I recommend plastidip...so much easier to do and looks great, plus if it ever gets damaged, it just peels off like vinyl and you can re do it. It is very durable though.

It is more like a vinyl spray, a lot more durable than spray paint and very easy to use. You can get it at Lowes if you are in the US.

I would say plasti dip. Vinyl can get water under it if you hit it to hard with the pressure washer, or if a rock hits it, water can get under it and cause it to bubble.
