Im not sure if it can come off easily but i just used 3M 471 vinyl tape and put it over it. It came out great! I think regular vinyl electrical tape is the same as 471....just not as wide

If that is the case, you're looking at a number of different possible problems by leaving it off.

A heat gun or hair dryer helps alot so you can stretch the vinyl... work about 6" sections at a time and get atleast 2" vinyl tape and maybe an extra pair of hands

This thread started out with a DIY intended to be helpful. Unfortunately, it recently deteriorated into a unrelated dispute between two members. I have spent the last while deleting those approximately one dozen posts while the thread was locked. I unlocked it and hope the discussion will continue in a constructive and helpful manner. If anyone has issues not related to the subject and wishes to have a sidebar debate, please use the PM function. I'm new to this but want to remove the chrome trim to paint it black or I guess vinyl wrap it. My question is that how do you vinyl wrap? I've searched the forums for possible DIY for vinyl wrapping the chrome trim but couldn't find any. Is it just buying vinyl tape and then literally taping over the trim?

I recommend plastidip...so much easier to do and looks great, plus if it ever gets damaged, it just peels off like vinyl and you can re do it. It is very durable though.
whats plastidip? lol is that spray painting it?

I would say plasti dip. Vinyl can get water under it if you hit it to hard with the pressure washer, or if a rock hits it, water can get under it and cause it to bubble.
