TPMS problem...
Hello all,
I am getting the red screen of death telling me my tire is flat. When I check them, the pressures are within 4psi of where they should be (Usually higher) but I still get the light. Even if I reset it while I am driving, it comes right back on again. I took it to the dealer twice and they tell me I had the pressures wrong and it's good for a week, and then comes back. When I check the pressure one tire had over 60psi
the second time this tire had 38psi
are they just trying to doctor up the problem by over pressurizing a tire so the light goes out? Needless to say I hope the answer is no because if they are I'm gonna be fighting mad over this nonsense....
Thanks!

If your getting a red screen and all the presures are fine than it could be acouple of things, poss a bad wheel sensor but that would store a fault so if they did a proper short test or tested the sensors with a proper tpm tool.. there are some service bullitens for white and red tpms lights they are both for a re flash of the control module and then a localism of the sensors..
if your car is still under wty and your sure the presures are fine and no leaks in the tires i would bring it back to that dealer or another dealer and explain that you have gone through all the basics and its something more

Hello all, this is slightly maddening. No warrentee, I am at 67K miles and never had this problem before. I have staggered pressures (28front 33 rear) and the dealer had it backwards and one was 38 not 28. I corrected them all but it seems like the pressures are all over the place. I paid for the nitrogen nonsense - it is supposed to be lifetime, but I'm sure they didn't do it cause I have pressures all over the place. So far it has been fine, but think there must be a small leak since it seems like this is a problem every week or so. I'll keep you posted.
I am tempted to ask them to refund the money I paid for the "lifetime" nitrogen service. It was nice when they acutally did it, but I feel like a jerk for paying for it now.

When they plug their computer in, they can actually see at what mileage the error threw and a history of PSI readings. Don't let the dealer slide by just saying your air was low. Ask what the reading your computer shows and what your current pressure is. If it's way off from reading and actual, then the TPMS sensor is bad. This happened to me once and I had to go back and forth with my dealer to get them to finally admit that I had a bad sensor. Also, request the serial number of the sensor for each tire from your dealer and write it down. There's no indication which sensor goes with which tire, so you'll want to keep track of that yourself. This way when the light goes off, you can identify exactly which tire is having the issue. And if they give you some crap line about how they have to take apart the tire to see the serial number on the sensor, tell them to use their brain and fill all the tires so no errors, then deflate each tire one at a time and see which serial number on the computer comes up red.

Another thing. If you are having a slow leak and it's not coming from the tire, take a look at your TPMS sensor. MB OEM sensor is kind of poorly designed with their seal. The rubber washer that's supposed to seal the air in only have a very little exposed area to compress. It sits inside a cup like plastic housing and the lip of the cup is too high. If you dremmel down the lip of the plastic cup, you expose more surface area for the rubber to compress and gives you a much better seal.

I had the same annoying issue with OEM TPMS. I resetted and added air in them. It went away after I had all for OEM tires changed to Continental DWS along with TPMS. All tires are from www.tirerack.com but TPMS is from local shop that mount my tires.
