Costco Gasoline - New Info

I filled up with premium as usual at Costco, and was chatting with the attendant about the sign indicating their new "Clean Power" additive. He said the gasoline additives are added at each station which is participating (a minority right now, as they roll it out nationally), but that this new additive package makes them a "Top Tier" gasoline, equal to Shell, etc. They cannot claim that in advertising until all national locations for the brand comply, but he said this new formulation would make periodic usage of Techron cleaner unnecessary. Interesting new info and open for comment among gasoline/oil company experts on this forum, please?

I don't know anything about it, but I wouldn't buy their gas simply because they started off with this

Since 1995, all gasoline sold in the U.S. must include an EPA-approved detergent additive. All Costco gas has always contained these additives. Costco gas stations are well maintained and our fuel has always been 100% guaranteed.
Why do they feel the need to bring that up unless there's some kind of question?

No question I know of...typical product of an advertising agency which writes web copy. Then the marketing client looks at the copy, thinks it sounds good, and it appears, all unrelated to what the engineers spec for their ground tanks.

Glyn, you out there? Anyone else in the oil/fuel business?

I won't buy Costco gas because of the ethanol. And the long lines.

What is the concern with 10% if MB approves?

Ethanol not

What MB may or may not approve doesn't come into it. Besides, my C300, being a flex-fuel car, could use E85 as you well know.

It's the 10% mileage drop that I don't want.

My card-op unattended station's premium (Chevron) is ethanol free.

Im a bit of a brand ***** and I do feel that top tier brands help with engine longevity, so I have never bought anything aside from Chevron. But yeah the long lines would deter me from Costco.

I think Costco gas is inconsistant cause they just buy surplus gas from different gas refineries depending on the region and depending on which refineries can offer them at a cheaper price. So obviously they can't just add in the clean additives cause it all depend where they buy their oil from. I am not saying its bad or anything, just inconsistant! I just stick to my Shell V Power avoid the long waiting lines...

What else is ethanol free? Ethanol is not good for our cars, in the long run fuel pump may go bad as it did on early 335s. I dod not know that Chevron is ethanol free.

FYI - I researched this when I first got my MB. All gas stations use/buy surplus gas from different gas refineries (which means yes, Shell will buy BP, BP will buy Chevron, etc...whatever is cheaper or closer (thus lowering transport costs, so technically still cheaper) at the time). What makes each brand of gasoline different from one another are the additives.
