Enough with the brake dust, already MB...
How many of you out there are as annoyed as I am at seeing your clean rims get dirty every few days with brake dust! I like your thoughts as to why this happens. My 07 230 had more brake build up on the fronts than the rears while my 09 350 has more build up in the rears than the fronts! I'm guessing that it's a set up deal when the cars are at the factory. I think MB is dialing in understeer before the cars leave the factory as a basic saftey measure to help prevent consumers from overdriving their cars and preventing rollovers. Though I don't think rolling over is that much of an issue with sedans as much as with suv's. You only have to look at every BMW suv to see how much neg. camber they dial in to them to cure / prevent rollover situations. I think MB is doing the same but instead of cambering the wheels - which looks unsightly, btw - they adjust the brake pressure towards the rears. I've ask a mech. at the dealership about this but he didn't know anything and has said that people have been complaining about this for years. Anyway, what do people out there think about this...Let me know, plz...

+1 jctevere. I just put ceramics on my car following the DIY on this forum. It was very easy and the improvement in brake dust reduction will be well worth the time and money.

Thanks Sportstick - did you also change and upgrade your disc, too? I'm deffinately looking into them! They never suggested that at the dealership they only shrugged their shoulders at me.

No...same rotors...ran my fingertip across faces of rotors and they were smooth, no rings scored into the surface, so the new pads mated up very nicely with the OE rotors.

Less expensive solution (or until your pads are worn) - use Armour All Wheel Protectant, it works like a dream - No BS...
Quick question, is there any proof that ceramic pads eat your rotors quicker? And, could you guys elaborate on the performance difference if there is any after going to ceramic?

I have the same issue with my rear brakes on my 08 C350.The dealer explained it as being my fault (apparently I am a preventive driver), I asked them about ceramic pads and they didnt seem very enthused and said will ruin the rotors sooner! Any thoughts?

Put ceramic pads on mine last time, no more dust, and I really don't notice any difference in stopping power. Any hard stats on the deceleration differences?
Very pleased with the ceramic pads so far (1.5 years).

i believe MBz changed their brakes, as my 2011 C300 doesnt produce as much brake dust as the OEM MBz brake pads that i have on my C32.
weeks and weeks and weeks the front wheel of the C300 stay nice and silver clean just like it was the day we picked it up.
my C32's front wheel will get noticeably dusty after 2 days of driivng

Hi guys...
Just read this post this evening and the other link to the other post about the TSB.
Will this apply to the 2010 cars and overseas cars like in Australia?
Cause my car seems to have this squeal when I brake and dust is very excessive.

5 mos / 3500kms.. Unless you've been a monster behind the wheel or take it to the race track every weekend, that's too early for significant brake wear. Definitely want to have it looked at.

2011 C 300 2001 E 430
I have a 11 C300 and have no brake dust at all. MBZ must have improved the brake pads. My 01 E430 had a terrible dust problem which i rectified by using Akebono Ceramic pads and Bremo rotors.

The new C face lift does not have this problem. I have been driving around ( including city with a lot of brakes applied as you would know how cities are ) and so far i did not see one spot of brake dust so far. My car was delivered to me last Wednesday so its been a weeks driving now. My old 2008 model would get break dust within a few days
They kinda fixed this problem in new cars.

Ok.. So I called the dealer and just been told there is no such TSB. He doesnt even seems to think there is such thing for Australia.
With the brake noise, he asked me to go on a quiet road and slam on the brakes if the sound comes up. He seems to think the noise is because the car is still quite new.
Any one from Australia have tried to have this fixed up?

Got a call again.
Been advised the TSB is for overseas models and does not apply to Australian models.
The brake sound is quite normal for a new car. Just use the brake a little more and the sound should go off.
Hmm....
