but when I unplug the key and restart the engine everything is normal again

I guess the only option you have now is to get the module replaced. I think it would be kinda dangerous to drive around in your situation right now. Never know when the car is gonna break down on you. Hope you get your problem resolved soon.

Dear member/s,
I've recently had the same problem with rear signal etc. Not working. My mechanic did a full diagnostics test which pointed error to rear SAM and a crazy price from Merc. £430!.....Anyway, i have as a last throw of the dice taken out the fuses connected to rear SAM, the coloured ones, checked each one and put th em back in, one by one..... And so far after 2 days of driving, around 200+ miles, all is well.... Try it! So far so good, touch wood!

Question: When you guys say control unit or SAM are you guys referring to part number 2048700126? My right low beam went out and dealer told me it's the control unit and gave me this part number. If I buy a used one on eBay for about $100 would I need to get it programmed at dealer or it should be a plug and play?
Thanks
Thanks

SAM faulty
I knew there was something wrong with that name I used... just didn't sound right. But the point is that taking a problem like this to an inexperienced shop without the right tools is a waste of time and money. And I doubt that the right shop will be found on every other corner in Malaysia.
If the car is still under warranty it will be repaired at no cost since SAM problems have been going on since the W203 hit the streets.

Regarding Rear SAM programming
I found a replacement on eBay for $105 US
Mercedes W203 C230 C240 SAM Control Unit OEM Hella 203 545 47 01
Symptons: No rear left turn signal (no fault shown), no backup lights, rear window shade inop. When braking and signaling left the rear brake lights blinked.
Previous owner had installed a unit from a 320. Above part number was correct for my Model. Systematically relocate connectors from the old unit to replacement one by one. You may have to remove the sticky cloth the use to wrap the original wire bundle to get full travel. That's the mess part.
Once installed all worked perfectly with a power on test. But the car would start and then stall, sounded like fuel starvation. I took a beer break (Warsteiner of course) and then went back to compare the units side by side. Turned out there was a missing relay on the replacement still intact in old unit. Bingo! Fuel pump Relay...transferred to the replacement and Wah-La all systems go. No programming required.
Hope this helps

Dear Gents,
I have found I have faulty SAMI unit module after crash.
All fuses seem to be good.
There is brunt path on printed cirtuit borad indeed. My W204 is after moderate crash of front part.
NBo cabling was destroyed, just lights has been broken.
I inted to buy second hand SAMI but I was warned by MB dealer it would not work if accessories does not match!
SAMI unit is bloody expensive cca 660 euro in Europe.
I itend fix SAMI myself whilst I am electronic engineer and I have professional soldering tools!
Any advice would be welcomed!
Regards
Andy from Slovakia
