Need to Update my 2009 C-350 iPod Interface
I recently purchased a used C-350 with the COMMAND Multimedia Package. I love everything about the car except for the iPod interface. I have to use the on-wheel buttons to scroll through my entire iPod Library in order, it displays in the center dash screen, and is overall a crappy, cumbersome interface. My friend purchased a 2010 C-350 with the command Multimedia Package and his iPod interface is fantastic. The iPod menus come up on the screen, you can scroll through the menus using the wheel, and it is an overall much more user-friendly system. I am wondering if there is any way for me to upgrade my cumbersome system to the more up-to-date system. It seems like it should be a software update and not a hardware update, but the dealership here says that there is no way to update the interface. Anybody know of anything?

It is hardware, not software. One would need to purchase the Universal Media Interface (UMI) or the Media Interface Plus (MIP). This would shift all iPod title selection to the media know on the center console, give you Pandora, charge MP3 players, etc. while displaying on the large center screen.
I agree that the Ipod Integration Kit is difficult to use, distracting and even dangerous. I now use playlists or just Shuffle rather than access a specific tune of the 5300 on my iPod.
Here is the owners manual for the MIP

When you say you have to go through the entire library, you mean that your playlists and such dont show up? you cant browse by artist, genre, all that stuff? Because my '10 300 with MM package has all those, very easy to use. But i dont have the UMI/MIP (yet, picking up MIP on tuesday). Which leads me to believe that your COMMAND software may be really old? Im having a similar issue with my dealer getting them to see that they can update the software (new version has a birds eye view map option, and some color changes)

having to scroll through the entire library for one song or an album is a *****, I agree with Acapulco, sticking with shuffle mode or simply build ur own playlist beforehand is more safer while on the road

+1 for Playlists - only practical way to do it with our W204s. I don't feel like dishing out the cash for the MIP so that's my only choice (other than hitting the down key 10 million times till I find a particular track).

First, your MB dealer will need your VIN to make sure the MIP is compatible with your Audio20 headunit.
The MIP would substitute the iPod Integration Kit electronics box, it would be advisable to offer it for sale, many people are looking to purchase one for less than the dealer price.
