Technically none of those spots, except maybe the corner one on the far left are desirable (to me). There's -always- somebody that pulls in next to you at some point, regardless if there are a bunch of other empty spots around.

Now that's funny! I remember a long time ago there was a little web game for urinal selection. You were given different scenarios of already occupied slots and then you had to pick which one you'd use, a la the one on the end. The funny punchline/gotcha was that the last scenario left you in a no-win situation, so when you clicked on the remaining choices a msg popped up saying: "There is no right answer in this case. Just hold it and walk out!"
As for parking, my wife and I are cursed. We always park in East Jesus and on an end spot, only to inevitably come out to find a monster truck toeing the line next to us.
Case in point below. Notice the white stripe??? I was parked to the left of this Jeep, as close to the other side of the spot as possible. This moron decides to make his own spot, leaving literally four inches between my door and his. Took the pic in case i found door dings later. I'm not a violent person (heh heh), but this took a LOT of patience to walk away from.

I always park far away on the end with plenty of empty spots around me and it seems that about 80% of the time someone decides to park next to me. What is wrong with all the other empty spots?

I feel the same way when I go to the movies, I pick the most secluded area and someone comes and sits right next to me when there are plenty of empty spaces.

When I drive anywhere, ther will always be an area where there are more then 15 spots around me available and always someone parks right beside.
I could be the only one in the parking lot and someone always has to park right beside me.
Its ****ed!

Yeah, it never fails that a rust bucket beater parks right next to me when I carefully select a spot. I think some people do it intentionally just to **** us off.

I like to park as far away as possible from crowds because what irks me the most is when people walk past my car and either their computer bags or clothing rubs the dust on the car, creating hairline scratches. When people lean against my car or bump into it, I get so pissed...

Otherwise, ICE just hit town.

It is a relief to read this thread and see that I am not alone. It tooks a while for me to park at shopping malls or supermarkets parking lots. I try to find a slot where at least one side of me is against the wall or between columns. It annoys my wife, so I just drop her at the entrance and catch up with her later in the mall.

I have to laugh.
I do the park-away-from-everything thing too, then walk to wherever I wanted to go, cross my fingers and hope for the best. It works sometimes, but like a bunch of others here, just as many times there's some car parked next to me when I come back, bunch of other open parking spaces all around. I've never got a ding or even a scratch in all this time.
The reason I laughed when I read this thread? I took my car in for a rear bumper replacement after some idiot tried to T bone me but could only get to the rear bumper, and when I picked the car up, the left rear quarter (opposite the side of the damage) had a big obvious scratch in it that could only come from the body shop *******s, and today, one day later, the paint is starting to peel in a small spot. Moral of the story? You can try, and it'll work for a while, but the damage gods are watching.

DAY F*CK*NG ONE, I park my C350 in a condo parking garage, FAR AWAY from the door and everyone else. What happens? Some F*CK*NG MORON in a rusty Camry parks right beside me and dings my door!
If I didn't have a client with me at the time, I would have kicked his door in!
I never really cared this much about door dings until this car... now, I'm a **** on the subject!

My solution to avoiding door dings, and looking pretty.
This is why I always park diagonally. It prevents door dings, and it also puts the car in a stance.
Or better yet, I always try to get the end spot. And then park diagonally, to get a glamour shot. haha.

Actually got yelled at by the girlfriend for giving up on finding a close spot at the mall today. (I only try when she's in the car)

I picked the farthest spot possible.
