Engine rusting from outside
Hi Folks,
While replacing my air filters i noticed that the engine from outside has developed some rust. Is this normal as all my other cars had the rusted engine from outside since none of them had the underbody cover. Should i be concerned??

Considering the engine block and heads are aluminum I doubt the rust you're seeing is coming from there. If I could guess, you're probably seeing the exhaust manifold or some type of heat shielding. In which case, the rust is normal.

Where do you live? Depending on where that is (Arizona Vs Maine) the air contains more moisture. You don't need direct contact with water to cause rust.
Hmmm. I live in MA and my 2008 W204 has no rust on the engine, it actually still looks brand new. Do you live near the ocean? The only problem I have are my center caps and lug bolts have become a little corroded. I’ll be asking my dealer to replace them under warranty in the spring. Where did you buy your car? Chambers?
