I hate how everyone assumes that when a younger kid has a nice car like a mercedes - they AUTOMATICALLY assume its because their parents paid for it. I have never EVER taken a dime from my parents ever since my 12th birthday, I got a job off the books, worked near 50 hours a week and saved up.
Leasing also makes it MUCH easier to afford driving luxury cars. My first car was a 2008 G37 coupe (leased it the DAY it came out) and now I have a 2009 c300 4matic that I purchased NEW, because I determined leasing was too costly. I was 17 when I leased the G37, and 19 when I bought the c300.
The youth are being EXTREMELY underestimated as far as their ability to afford things. And I think that Mercedes' creation of Generation Benz shows that they are starting to discover this trend. And that we form our buying patterns at a very young age.
The fact is, I still live at home and have no rent or mortgage payment, rarely have to pay for food (if I choose to eat out) and only have to pay for my car, insurance, cellphone and credit card bills. So even if my salary is 1/3rd an older person's our disposable income is relatively similar, as mortgage and other bills associated with living alone or as a head of a household (utilities, house insurance, property tax, etc) takes a large chunk out of their salary.
So please, don't just assume that younger people who have nice cars or expensive things have their parents pay for everything. It is in insult to people like me (and probably many others, as it appears, on the forum) who work really hard for what they have and are relatively independent.
As far as the c-class being only a few thousand more than other "cheaper cars". This is true, if you FULLY equip those vehicles (genesis coupe, camry, etc). But the fact is, most of those vehicles are a good 7-10k cheaper than a c-class. However, something can be said that a c-class has more standard features and is a better "value" than the other vehicles, which I realized, and which is why I now own a w204!

I make about $100-300 a weekend and its enough to pay my bank loan every month.
I bought used and probably paid the same amount as all the kids/parents did on their new Jeep Libertys, to be honest it makes me laugh.
I will admit though my parents do pay for my insurance as I was just added to the policy.

What does amaze & disappoint me is what people do modifing a brand new Mercedes Benz.
It is a beautiful piece of styling & engineering & to be stripped of badges, lowered , vinyl wrapped & generally mistreated is a total anathema to me.
These modifications must lower the value considerably.
What I can understand is buying an older car that has already fallen in value then modifying it to your liking. Being an older car the younger motorist would learn the maintenance techniques which would hold them in good stead for life.

Hey, I'm on your side. Back around the year 2000 I was ~21 driving this. However, not many can say they worked for it. If you did, great, but know that NOONE assumes you did. I know, because I was on the receiving end of the hate myself.
Hell, this was my daily driver and the GT-R was the garage queen.
That's a GMC Typhoon for you youngin's

It's surprising how you young guys seem to appreciate the fact of paying for your own your cars there in the US. On the other hand it's true that here a c350 costs about 78-95 k US $ and almost nobody leases an expensive car (if people can't pay cash, they buy a cheaper car), so it's impossible to afford a fancy car working at a ****ty job. It's also forbidden to work (gainfully) until you're 16, so unless you earn 4.5k us$ per month working at mcdonalds you can't have saved 80 k $ at the age of 18 (minimum legal age for driving). By the way, if you want to work before you are 18 your parents should sign a legal contract allowing it

I bought my own c350 brand new in 2008 on my own dime... sold my gsx-r750 for the down payment. payed it off about a year ago, again, by myself. oh and I was 19 at the time of purchase.
Yes i agree some young people on here may have got there car from there parents but there are quite a few who havent. just bc its an MB doesn't mean its unachievable for people under 22. STI or EVO X-mr is about the same if not more (depending on options) than a c350.

Haha, so true. We're car enthusiasts, and more so Automotive Uniqueness Engineers. If we wanted a stock car we would just go out and not spend our times on the forums. Not saying MB doesn't make nice looking cars. I just like to perfect it to my liking.
Bauer, please tell me you have the GTR still sitting around. That thing is still beautiful. And wow, haven't seen a typhoon in years.

I've been a Professionl Mechanical Engineering Consultant, employed by a major plastics and chemical company for over 20 years. I worked in a central group of consultants. We fixed problems, at the company's plants in the US and abroad as well, that local engineers could not handle. I had to fill out a time card, and all my work came directly from the plants, based on reputation (and not from my evil manager, who set my consulting fee at $180/hr).
My favorite project was the total mechanical analysis and proof testing of a new 3-spoke wheel for Specialized Bicycle, later marketed by Steve Hed as the Hed-3. Steve was involved with the initial wind tunnel work on a wooden prototype.

I'm a flight dispatch Coordinator in one of the major airlines in Australia.
My first car was 1992 hyundai excel coupe. I loved that car until some idiot Volvo driver ignored the round around and I had no choice but to crash into it.
Than I had the last N16 Nissan Pulsar sedan for about 3 years. Now I drive the new Nissan Maxima for the family and my dad and I share the C250.

I think it's the fact that without mommy & or daddy money they wouldn't be here. Chances of a sprat or college student owning a 'Benz on their own is slim to none.
I don't care but I can see where some would be annoyed, especially if they're the type to ghetto/ricer out their ride.

Well I had no help from my parents. I have a 2007 Titian, and my 2008 C300 in my name and pay for them. I work hard at both my jobs to pay for my fun and toys. Got them both used. The 08 C300 was only $22,000 OTD, put $7,500 down. Its just a C class. Its not like Im in a CL63 thats over $190,000.
