Media Interface retrofit feedback

Has anyone out there done the Media Interface retrofit to thier Audio 20? I know this can be expensive--just got a quote the for the unit is $1,290.00 plus installation of approximately $375.00. Additionally need to puchase the navigation data DVD for $249.00. I really don't want to do the MM retro as my car--don't have the time to do it myself and going through the dealership for a new one is not even reasonable.

I am curious of how good the nav is or isn't. I plan to retro one of the 6 inch screens later so will gain some size of the standard 5 inch.

I appreciate your thoughts. I ahve read some the previous UMI discussions but really haven't seen much feedback from owners who have this installed.

Regards,

Here are my experiences with the Universal Media Interface :

Overall, I like it and it was a good purchase. But, I will say do not spend the money just for the nav. My wife just bought a new Garmin GPS for $75 and it blows away my navigation in every possible way. But, I love full ipod control on the display, the ability to plug in a USB thumb drive, and most of all the bluetooth streamimg which I use more than anything else...

Hope this helps, and good luck with your purchase !

Nick

you can install it yourself for free...you can download v7 of the maps for free as well, you have already saved 625....very simple to do, just follow boxxz diagram, do not, i repeat do not get overloaded with all the BS info out there....very simple to do....

UMI

Thanks guys!

Cali--I was looking to possibly do this myself but had a few concerns. First of course is I don't want to void any warrantees so if I do self-retro on an upgrade am I good? Second I was concerned about dealer’s action for enabling the odometer screen turn guidance and anything else I would need to do.
I did subscribe to the Star Tekinfo for a day downloaded the UMI retrofits instructions--seems pretty simple to me except for the part where the instruction say hook up to the diagnostic equipment to make updates.
What do you think?
