Tire Pressure Monotor INOP all of a sudden

I was driving to work today and all of a sudden my TPMS indicator starts flashing .... So it flashes for 20 secs or so then goes solid... I check the message screen and it says tire pressure monitor inoperable...I ge to work and come back 9 hours condition is still present... Has anyone else had this problem... ??? What could be the underlining issue, outside of a faulty TPMS

I don't think you can get much help with the given info. You probably have a faulty sensor. I imagine the TPMS system stores some kind of code to diagnose this, but that might require you visit the dealer

Assuming you havent gotten new wheels/tires, sounds like a faulty sensor

Have you had a tire repaired lately or nailed a pothole really hard or anything?

I have a dead sensor in my smart (they are the same system), and it does the same thing right now. It went to hell after I had a tire patched and a subsequent wheel replacement after the place that worked on the tire bent the bead of my wheel.

Check your pressures with a good gauge - before mine completely went out, it got really hypersensitive, and a 1 or 2 PSI difference would set it off.

Did you try resetting your TPMS via the steering wheel IF it will let you?

If you get a TPMS error and not just a "check tire pressure" light. It is a bad sensor or the reciever system itself. Simply bring it to your dealer and they will pull the codes and tell you what is wrong. If your rims have been on for a while either assume its the recieving system, or if you hit a pothole hard it could potentially have messed up a sensor. There isnt really anything else it could be the TPMS is pretty simple system

Good to hear it.

Keep an eye on it - mine did this 2 or 3 times before it conked out completely. I almost wonder if it was like a temporary communications glitch at first.

Its the batteries dying in the sensor...Kinda like a flashlight....when it dies and you dont touch it for a couple of days, there is enough residual charge to work for a short period of time before it goes out again
