See attached Data Sheet where they recommend the 95 amp for the diesel & 70 amp for the petrol.
I will be buying the lighter ( by 6 Kgs) petrol 70 amp when I need to.It is now 8 years old so I can recommend them.
70 amp works well in my mild weather conditions.

I just bought an Interstate battery at Costco that comes with a 42 month free replacement warranty to replace the OEM Varta in my 2012 C250. The Interstate is rated at 800 CCA. The size is virtually identical. It is a Fitment Code 29. My receipt states it is a H6 size battery. A previous post recommended a Fitment Code 22. But from what I understand, a Fitment Code 22 would be over an inch higher than OEM. Seems this may interfere with the air box that fits over the battery. Cost was about $110 before tax and core charge. The only thing that could make the Interstate better is if it came with handles like the OEM battery as it would make it easier to slip the battery in and out.
For the first timers, make sure the three tabs on the bottom of the air box fit into the corresponding slots. There is a video on youtube on how to replace the battery.
I also find it interesting that because the battery is covered by the air box, Mercedes has red plastic cover inches away that exposes a terminal for jump starting if needed. The ground is also nearby. It is a small post sticking out not too far away that does not seem to have a purpose.

Battery ventilation?
I am sorry to bring up the old thread.
My battery is approaching its end of life I think. If I buy a non-MB battery, what should I do with the ventilation hose? Just let it hang? Thanks.

I thought it could be used as the earth when jump starting or charging.

If yours has plenty of air around it under the bonnet (hood) I should not worry.
If your battery is a wet type ( not AGM) & for some reason the alternator AVR overcharges it or if it is over filled when topping up, the acid is liable to overflow. A drain is then advisable. I have had this happen in an earlier car & it strips off all the paint it comes in contact with.

I bought Interstate battery at Costco for my other car. It does not have the ventilation hole. I will check if Costco has the type for 2001 C300.
My C300 is basically a weekend car, but I trickle charge it from time to time to keep it at least 11.7 thereabout. Just recently it drops suddenly. AI charge it to 12v or bit above, it won't hold it for even one day. Time to replace it after five years. It's VARTA, made in Germany.
Anyone knows the little square device connected to the negative terminal? Is it a fuse? It is made by Hyundai.

I went to Costco and bought one based on Interstate brochure. I measure its length which is about one inch shorter than the MB OEM. Can't install it so went to dealer and bought same OEM battery as the original one from factory.
