The instant you race, you devalue your car, as there will always be someone "faster", and by racing, you acknowledge that you care about which car is faster, therefore, if your car isn't, you've just lessened the value to your car.
My car would never lose a race to a Ferrari, 'cause I'd never race a Ferrari. I'd never lose to a Camry and I wouldn't beat a Smart Car, 'cause I wouldn't race any. My cars value isn't even remotely weighted by how well it performs in a race. Not to mention, racing on public streets is infinitely stupid.

No disrespect but that is really just an opinion and quite hypocritical. To say racing or to care about who's car is faster lessens the value of your car, is like saying putting mods on your car, is just as devaluing because you care about looks. A consumer buys a car for many reasons whether its the performance, appearance, luxury, or how convenient it is. But you're right, racing is stupid, i've learned my lesson. I'd rather have admiration from others for my car than to know my car beat this or that car.
just thought id share my experience

Appearance is subjective though, so you can see your car as the nicest thing on the road, and nobody can say anything about it.
However, if you buy a C300, then line up with many overall-lesser cars, you can get your butt handed to you, which inevitably devalues your car to your eyes. To me, if I buy a car because speed is in any way relevant to me with it, then I'll spend my money on a wiser choice than a V6 Merc Sedan. That's the way I see it, and I don't care if a Camry pulls up next to me with 400 HP, wouldn't bother me or make me feel like I'm in an un-superior car.
Anyway, you live and you learn. Tons of cars can beat your car in a race, but your car wasn't designed to race, and offers many perks that should keep you happy with it.

...says the guy who wrapped or smoked everything on his car he could think of...
...Some would rather smoke another car than smoke thier turn signals...I absolutely value performance as much or more than appearance, I guess it is all personal preference...This car has a good amount of each - well balanced.

If someone like yourself was interested in smoking another car rather than smoking your turn signals, then why pay so much for a slow car? 268HP is lousy in a competitive standard today, though, more than fulfilling for someone like me who just needs ample power and smooth operation, without concern of being a moron on streets and racing in a 3500+ lb family Sedan (no offense to O/P, we all have done it and you seem to at least acknowledge the lack of responsibility.... which is saying more than what we see from lots of people, sadly).
