i know how dangerous it is to race but its so tempting when the opposing car is nagging you to at every light. So i thought id play with the new 2012 Civic Si sedan. Light turn green and i gave the pedal half throttle to see if he actually was going to race. I soon as i hear his engine rev up i stepped on it. I was ahead up until 3rd gear and thats when the front of my car was at his driver side door. As soon as we hit 65 he let off. I felt so Ashamed of the "power" in a c class. i know i have a mercedes but it stuns me to know a 201 hp car can beat our cars

Never judge a book by its cover... But why even begin to give someone the opportunity to embarrass you? What I do is nudge the gas pedal on green (which gives the impression of a fast start) and if they had any intention of racing, they're off racing by themselves.

That said, and though I don't know what the penalties in VA are for street racing. What I do know is that 20mph in excess of the limit is cited as Misdemeanor Reckless Diving"... Not worth the hassle!

Really though, I was looking for some info on this car.

The car is about 800 lbs lighter whether its a 2/4 door.
It's 0-60 is almost .5 faster as well is its 1/4 mile.

the funny thing is i did do the nudge action at the previous 2 lights, and we hit every red light. But you're right i should of been more humble.

Bro, I dont know why r u so sad loll At the end of the day, you still drive a Mercedes, not a civic. Maybe Mercedes C300 cant win in street race, but in terms od style, class, safety and chance of picking up hot chicks! You can for sure tell the si to Fxxx off

Different cars serve different purposes. A C300 is not meant to be a fast car. I'm sure my '98 Cobra will run circles around my C350 despite being 14 years older and $20K cheaper...but the C350 will likely be a MUCH more luxurious ride. I went back and forth deciding between the new Boss 302 Mustang and the C350. Finally realized that for driving on roads the C350 is the way to go. Street racing may be tempting, and I've done my fair share when I was younger, but as you've acknowledged it just isn't worth it.

Anyhow, enjoy your car....speed aside there's no comparison between your car and the Honda.

At least the Civic Si is a "sporty car", the cringe factor of the F'ing Camry beating my C350 drives me nuts...(and No - I would not be caught dead driving a Camry)

My neighbor a few doors down drives a couple year old XLE V6 Camry (inherited from his wife) and absolutely hates it. I was trying to make him feel better a while back when we were talking about cars by saying mine has vinyl seats, is slower and doesn't have half the options he has, etc and he looked at me like I was crazy and said "but it's a freakin Benz"...funny how brand appeal works.
I wouldn't feel too terribly bad about the civic keeping up with you. It has a very light, loud, seat of the pants kind of demeanor that while pretty fast, gets old quick when banging around on rougher roads and long distance road trips.
BTW- Street racing in GA will lose you your car

that civic can get additional 20hps for under 500 bucks. in addition to being lighter and you see the result there.
Besides that, you know he’s going home and telling everyone that he beat a benz, and that will be his moment for a month. So let him have it, enjoy your ride, it was built for different purpose.
When i by a benz i buy it for comfort and features. If i wanted to kick someone’s but in races i would get AMG models.

Don't feel too bad, OP. A 228hp car with 3500+lbs curb weight will unfortunately not win too many stoplight races.

From what I heard this Civic Si are great from a dig. But will the same result come up when done on a roll? say at 60mph? just curious...

I find my C300 to be very powerful (Coming from a C240 you can't blame me!!). As far as the Civic guy... I find those cars disgusting, even if it is a bit faster. Honda makes great lawnmowers.

I realize I don't own a C300 or any C class but I saw on the front page and had to say something.

Unfortunately, the C300 IS the slowest (and cheapest) Mercedes for the last bunch of years until the newer updated faster C class recently came out.

You will lose to a Cadillac Escalade too as shown in a stupid marketing video by Cadillac when they did do a race between a C300 and an Escalade. (Which needless to say, you will also lose to my GL450)

Don't be too mad. It's still a Mercedes in the end even though it's entry level while the Civic SI is "high end" Civic with an upgraded engine and a sporty feel. It's a lot lighter too.

Hey, I said that *I* find them disgusting. Nothing odd or misinformed, just my opinion. If you love em then thats totally fine! Some people like the Scion XB - do I understand why? No. Does that make it wrong? Nope.

I always found the square cup holders in the Civic to be the most amusing detail. Cups are round. Maybe they were thinking it would pull double duty as a cup holder and a cell phone / whatever else area since it is square?

I have raced a few C's in my genesis and there always surprised when I pull on them, seeing as the genesis comes stock 210hp. then again mine is far from stock

Sorry man, just seemed like an odd thing to say - I have never owned a Civic, nor do I love them, but they seem almost iconic for some reason...Quick search says they have been the number one selling car in Canada for 14 years in a row and there are over 7 million in the great USA...unreal.

i admit i used to drive a civic and after getting my new c250, theres nothing else i would rather drive than this now...no matter how much money spent on a civic..its still a civic...everyone teased my car before but now they dont say n e thing cuz everyone knows wtf a benz is...i raced a '09 bmw 335 and my 250 kept up surprisingly well...

leave the stop light racing for the ricers...dont put shame on ur benz by wasting gas on them

The instant you race, you devalue your car, as there will always be someone "faster", and by racing, you acknowledge that you care about which car is faster, therefore, if your car isn't, you've just lessened the value to your car.

My car would never lose a race to a Ferrari, 'cause I'd never race a Ferrari. I'd never lose to a Camry and I wouldn't beat a Smart Car, 'cause I wouldn't race any. My cars value isn't even remotely weighted by how well it performs in a race. Not to mention, racing on public streets is infinitely stupid.
