Security issue; my car was opened today

Hi,

Today unfortunately someone opened my car and stole some things from the inside. I'm almost sure that I closed my car; because closing it is almost automatically. I've heard that there are people with some equipment that are able to open the cars that use our kind of keys. I want to know if someone knows if this is possible to accomplish with out MB's. If you think it is not possible, is there a way to program the computer so the car closes automatically after a couple of minutes opened. If not is there any other security system that may be installed?

Thanks for your time and I will really appreciate any help.

I believe the technology used by Mercedes-Benz is known to be some of the most sophisticated theft-deterrent devices available. I am very careful when leaving my car, but have walked away and couldn't remember if I had locked it.

I believe so too. But regarding the programing; is it possible to be programed so the car closes after a couple of minutes after it has been turned off and the door shut?

I would imagine that wouldn't be the best thing - if you leave your key in the car (not in the ignition), it will get locked in the car, not sure you would want to do that. I would also guess the only way would be with someone whose really good with Benz STAR or whatever the computer program is called.

After this incident you'll probably be very aware about locking your car anyway.

Thanks guys. The other problem I think we have is the long distance that the key is able to open the car. I live on an 11 story apartment and a couple of days ago I was at my living room and the security guard called me because my trunk was open. The issue is that my key triggered the trunk from my pocket

I have my car programmed so that the mirrors automatically fold in when the car is locked. That way I could see from a distance that my car is locked.

Thanks aowaus that can be programmed through the preferrences menu on the steering wheel. I'm reffering through a special programming of the computer as when you start diving and the car locks itself while starting to drive. As LandSeaEarth said; I know that is a security/convenience feature but I prefer leaving my keys inside weather having my ipod and miracuosly not my valentine one stolen.

there in no programming to make your car lock automatically w MB software. There are many products out by viper and the likes that do this all from your smartphone. Search on here for remote start and you will see many that start your car from almost anywhere in the world or lock unlock whatever. I used the mirror fold option too on my 08 to know they were locked, on my 2011 It doesnt do this in the cluster options. I just lock my doors like clockwork when I get out of the car, becomes routine now

Sorry to hear.

There are SOOO many times I wonder. Did I lock it? And I run back out. Not worth it especially considering how long the damn lock pins are. VERY VERY obvious to a passerby when it is unlocked.

I am surprised your key reaches from that far. I guess my key is slowly dying...

a few months ago there was about 12 cars that got broken into in my "hood" overnight
i guess i forgot to lock my car, the robbers stole about 10 bucks in coins and ransack my glove box, they somehow missed the iPod classic in the glove box, since i have my car to maintain the lights off when you open the car i guess they weren't able to see **** in the dark and they were probably in a rush haha.

I actually thought that the car locked a while after if you didn't lock it but i guess thats not the case

Also, the car locking itself only occurs if the car is locked, you unlock it, but don't open any doors. After 30 seconds, iirc, it will lock itself.

Nice safeguard.
