MB service vs DIY?

Can MB dealerships threaten a possible voided warranty if you do scheduled maintenance yourself?

It seems that it depends on where you are located. I asked the same question in the forum some time ago and people from the US told me that it wasn't a problem to change it yourself but since I am from Europe I called and the result was that in my country one loses the warranty if he changes the oil by himself or at a place, different than the dealer's place.

In Hong Kong they do, luckily my fiancee's warranty is about to expire anyways and it doesn't really cover crap so I told the dealer to go f themselves.

Not in the US. But be sure to keep all records/receipts should you need to prove that the service was indeed performed.

In Canada, well at least Ontario it doesn't have to be a stealership but a certified mechanic and shop. DIYs don't count. Have to have a receipt showing everything

Yup, as already mentioned, it really depends on your location and since you do not list one in your profile, we can only speculate.

I'm from Wisconsin, and was wondering if I should go with the prepaid maintenance, or do the oil changes and fluid checks myself. As long as I don't void the warranty doing it.

I, personally, wouldn't buy one as I like to DIY so there wouldn't be any benefit for me. And I'm pretty sure the cost of the prepaid package is far greater than what you would end up paying if you did the work yourself.

So, it pretty much depends on what you are capable and comfortable of doing. But if it is the warm and fuzzy feeling of having the stuff prepaid you want, then go for it.

In Spain it wasn't a problem to change it in an specialist (not necessary the official dealer ) who ought to stamp your bookle of guaranty otherwise you'll lost the guaranty.

I believe that someone recently posted here that the prepaid doesn't save you money...it only "locks in the rate". So if the price for an oil change goes up next year you don't have to pay the increased rate. But, aside from inflation/price changes, there is no discount in the prepaid package. I haven't confirmed this myself, just restating what I read on here earlier.

In the US, you are protected by Federal Law on this one. You can do your own maintenance provided that you keep a record of it. Of course there are some things that just aren't worth doing yourself.

For example, I'm not going to do my own transmission service, coming up in 7500 miles.

I thought that all new Mercedes worldwide was without a physical book now a days.
At least my car has the digital service book, and as that there is only authorized workshops that can enter the service in the dig. book (Just guessing, since it's in the Mercedes Star system) ..

I for all don't mind my service being done by a Mercedes authorized shop.
I know how to change the oil and filters etc. But with my daily driver I don't want to.
