What is this knob used for?

What is this knob used for?

Just noticed this knob inside the glove box while I was working around there to change the cabin air filter. It has white sort of indicator that when you turn it it grows thicker (sort of like on a volume, dimmer etc. buttons etc.).

I looked in the Owner's Manual but didn't see anything about it. If it is in there and I missed, please point me in the right direction.

No eating in my car. And is it insulated? I imagine it only cools to the temperature that the air conditioning is set to for the rest of the car and only while the car is running. How cold do you set your air conditioning?

My BMW had the vent in the center console through the cup holder section. That would keep a drink cooler or warmer for a time.

I suppose it will prevent accidental cookoff of ammunition when I keep my .40 Sig in the glovebox. I always worried about that.
