Is the dealer trying to screw me?

Looking to lease a new 2012 C350 Sport Sedan.

Sticker is $48,000.

They are discounting the car $2,410.

Lease term would be 36 months @ 10,000 miles per year.

Dealer quoted me $828 per month with no money down.

This seems to be about $200+ too high. Or am I mistaken.

Thanks in advance.

Hahaha! Those were my thoughts exactly. I felt insulted. Thanks for the good laugh.

If a few more folks would like to chime in and if they'd be willing to share numbers (via PM or in this thread) I would appreciate it.

Think it would be best to just buy one, that way there you get some money back on it when you want to sell it. Especially at that ridiculous price they quoted you for a lease.

That is insanely too high, I'd maybe ask them to calculate it again. There's definitely a mistake in there some where. I leased a $40k 4runner for 3 years for $465 a month. Zero down.

Thanks for the input. I typically only lease. I'll get quotes from other dealers or just pull the trigger on an F30 335i.

Yeah I called the Sales Associate back and went over the numbers with her again and she said it was "straight from MB."

I was pretty irritated but I maintained my composure.

Something smells bad here. They want you to pay $30,000 plus anything over 30k in miles, and just give them the car back after 3 years so they can sell it for another $25,000 or so?

Hmmm! I would just go someplace else. Don't deal with them anymore, no matter what. There is business, and then there is dishonesty. I think they belong to the latter.

Just my $.02

+1. Usually the actions of one employee relates to the philosophy of management and therefore all the employees.

I agree completely. I appreciate your input sir.

I sent an email to the Sales Manager asking how they came up with those numbers (after several attempts to speak to him directly by phone).

I'd really just love to hear an explanation for those numbers at this point. If they don't even extend me that courtesy, they will be losing my business forever.

Here's the kicker - the owner, the sales manager, and the assistant sales manager are all related. The father owns the dealership and his sons occupy the sales manager/assistant sales manager positions.

seems more like what you'd pay for a well equipped e class. I would just buy it and sell it when you're done, that way you don't have to deal with the dealer guessing how much they think the car will depreciate in three years.

Okay zibby43, let's assume they give you an explanation; why do you even care. There is no explanation in the world that will be acceptable, unless the interest rate they are charging you is 30%.

I bet you there is another dealer who is really anxious for your business. As far as these guys are concerned, do as we say in Brooklyn, Fuhggetaboutit

Good luck, and keep us posted

Wow, nice payment! I am not sure how lease payments work. But I know a C-class is not worth that payment not even a E-class

That may not be too far off depending on where you live.

Looking at leasecompare.com, a 2012 C350 with a purchase price of $45,600 and $0 down 12k miles per year would be $751 for a 36 month lease not including tax, title, and license.

Not sure where you live, but in Illinois you have to pay full sales tax for a lease. That would make your purchase price $48,800 and your lease payment $855 per month using the same numbers above.

I do agree this sounds high ( especially if you do not have to pay full sales tax on a lease in your state ) so be sure to shop around.

Hope that helps...

Nick

Haha! Quoted for truth. I did receive an email from the Sales Manager. He said he had no idea how the Sales Associate calculated that payment and gave me some "revised" numbers.

Thanks for taking the time to do the research and share that. I appreciate the perspective Nick.

No I definitely do not.

As far as updates go, it looks like I'll be pulling the trigger on a 2012 F30 335i Sport Line in Alpine White.

Payment is about $250 less. Still think the C350 is a great looking car (both inside and out) but when considering the offers from both BMW and Mercedes on similarly equipped cars, the lower payment on the 335i coupled with an edge in performance pretty much sealed the deal.

Thank you again to everyone who contributed to this thread.

The 2012 C-class is most definitely the better looking car over the F30 335i, however, the F30 is most definitely the performance king. Saving $250 a month is a win, as is the 335i! Did you get the 6MT?

Have a loaner X3 xDrive35i right now while the 135i 6MT is in the shop. The engine is a gem, but that damned 8-speed automatic is always shifting.
