Sorry if my post was confusing. They quoted me 10. 5 for their "transmission service kit" and 5 more for the TC.

My cars transmission was redrained + torgue converter at their cost.

I was assured, but can only hope they did it.

They however refused to replace the engine oil, even though they gave me a qwote and I was willing to pay for it. I was hoping to give the poor engine a christmast present in the form of a drink of fresh oil. I was wondering if the Motorplan prevents them from doing it.

Hello all, Im hoping someone with knowledge can answer, I've been having plenty of dealership problems located in Des Moines, Iowa. I was supposed to have a transmission service done at 39k, i bought the car at 50k miles as cpo, before they can sell it they have to do all services required in which the transmission service was not completed, after bickering back and forth i contacted MBUSA and the dealer agreed to do it free of charge, last Saturday they preformed it, invoice showed only 5 qts, i contacted the service manager and stated they didn't drain the TC, i gave him the WIS and the diagrams of where the TC plug is he emailed back and stated "It is a trans service, not a flush. We drain the fluid, remove pan, replace filter, gasket reinstall and fill until it is full." the i asked

"is that what the 39k mile services requires you to do?"

"yes"

"is it possible to receive the documentation stating that?"

"sorry WIS is dealer information only"

I went ahead and called MBUSA and i spoke to a regular representative and he stated it should have been done fully, i get a call from the case manager and she states he will send me documentation of proof of the service and this was his email as follows "This is from the service sheets for your vehicle. The asterisks shows
the 39,000 mile trans fluid and filter service which was what we did.
I spoke with Susan from MB and let her know that I would be sending you
this information."

Please help me. Heres the attachment he sent.

Bosnia, in the pdf you attached, it lists document AP27.00-P-2702W, which is attached to this thread at post #8. Print/email that and show it to them. That document on this thread was from 2010, but a quick google search lead to older documents under the same name where there was no mention of draining the TC. Maybe it is possible that your dealer is still using the old document?

However, it seems more likely that your dealership is being lazy and I would keep complaining to MBUSA.

I showed it to them, asked the service manager to look at page 2, box 6. Oddly enough when i asked about the WIS he refused to show it.. how do i go about this?

I think your customer service rep is poorly informed- when I had the same concern with my recent transmission service, the service manager researched it, looked at the same WIS document and confirmed that draining the TC is part of the service.

If you look at the list of required materials for the service referenced in the WIS document, you'll see 9L of transmission fluid, as well as the drain plug and some assorted gaskets and seals.

Hello and thank you for replying, my ongoing issue with this dealership and now MBUSA is getting ridiculous, The dealership provided me the the attachment that is attached, i provided them the WIS from that attachment they gave me.. the service manager then states my WIS is an older version apparently from 2009, and that the newer version doesn't even state draining the torque converter as a request, i asked him to see the WIS he has and he refused and stated it was Dealership information only. I contacted MBUSA and their "product advice" person stated that it is not required, after being transferred to him by my case manager.

I was there 3 hours btw from the time I drove in, walked through process/paperwork again, and then waited for car to be finished.

Initial quote for the "base" transmission service was $359.

I do realize the cleaner/solvent is on the invoice twice, not sure if they used 2 or not - did not really care based on everything else.

The filter is a friction fit, so only takes 2 minutes extra time. The filler tube needs to be pushed upwards to get the pan to drain. possible they can use a hook to bring the fill tube to reseal without removing the pan.

After that comment, I would go be tempted to find another shop or watch them like a hawk. The $300 is a fair price and a great one from a MBZ dealer.

I just got off the phone with my local dealer and was told there is no drain plug on my w204 (2010 4MATIC). Was that just a blatant lie? I looked through the WIS posted in this thread and it says drain the TC through the drain plug except for on 722.93 transmissions. Is there somewhere I can find definitive proof that my C300 has the 722.9 transmission, so I can bring that and the WIS to the dealership so they can stop being lazy? Also, anyone in the Chicagoland area have this done correctly?

Go to the EPC site (free accounts for those with a credit card that has a US billing address). Enter your VIN, go to transmission, look to the TC image and get the part number for the TC plug. The plug seal should be replaced, but MBZ sells the plug with the seal together.

the epc has my tc plug p/n as 0019901117 m8x1.
some have m10 instead.

some don't believe in a large atf change especially if there was dirty atf. Too much of a shock. They are recommending changing the atf more often.

How often does one see particles in the pan for the first atf change?

Since the atf cooler is though the water coolant, so it can be above 175 F. What is the optimal temperature for the atf?
Will an external air-cooled cooler be helpful for the tranny?

Alright, I just got off the phone with a dealership that was actually pretty easy to talk to about getting this service done. However, I was quoted $550 for the entire service. Is this around what everyone else is paying? Seems like a lot.

Hi Chuey, I'm also in Chicago and very interested in how your trans service goes. I've already asked a few service managers in the area about the TC and so far they've all said "oh that's not required per MB". Hopefully yours goes well and we can identify a competent service dept in the Chicago area!

Agreed. I just don't understand why you need to ask for them to do the service properly. Sigh But in any case I'm trying to find a lower price for it right now, debating on whether or not to take it to a third party shop.

Local dealer for only ATF in the pan is $400 in OC, CA that includes 6 qt of ATF MI -134 at $24/qt.

Indy for labor only, if you supply the parts and ATF ($80), will be anywhere from $70 to $100. Shell ATF 134 is about $5 per quart. The $100 was to also do the TC/flush. Some don't have the ability to pump in ATF through the drain plug. Lots don't like a complete ATF change. Says it like changing all the water in a fish tank at one time.

How do we ensure a proper TC service?

Well, this issue has reared it's ugly head again. I purchased my 2010 C300 ± 8 weeks ago and have some fluid loss on the garage floor so I took it in for service. When I bought it there was 38,500 miles on the odometer and the salesman said they always do any service that's due in the next 10,000 miles if it's CPO.

SO, I asked for the invoice for this service and the SA gave it to me unaware that I was looking for anything special. Low and behold, there it was. 5 in the quantity for Gear Oil instead of 9.7 or 10. I put the service bulletin on my Surface tablet and approached the SA with my information and told him that I had a concern. After calmly describing the situation he didn't ask for any supporting information. He started making excuses that he'd have to talk to the mechanic who did the work, maybe they just entered the wrong information on the invoice but really serviced it properly (?really?) or on some C300's there aren't drain plugs for the Torque Converter, yada yada yada.

I told him my 2010 DID have a drain plug (based on the information learned on this forum) and that it should be serviced properly while I'm here getting my fluid leak fixed and COMAND updated. He made a very telling statement which leads me to believe that some of these dealers are scamming both us as customers as well as Mercedes Benz as they're not properly servicing the cars intentionally. He said, and I quote, "To service the transmission properly, it's 3 1/2 hours." This was said to get a reschedule with a loaner. Curiously, the invoice for the service paid 1 hour for the Transmission service to the mechanic. 3.5 hours @ $108 per hour or 1 hour at $108 per hour. I would think the mechanic would appreciate the work. Or is the leadership at the dealership pushing this to cut costs?

Anyway, they've promised to do it right when they fix the transfer case leak. That being said, how do we make sure that the transmission and torque converter are serviced properly?

Should I have them call me back to the service bay to observe the draining fluid? I can hear it now; "I'm sorry sir, customers aren't allowed in the service area.".

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

It may take 3.5 hours, but most of the time is to allow the ATF to cool down for the final fluid level adjustment (45*C). No real labor involved (just bay-time if you don't move the car out to the parking lot).

If you ask for a sample of the original ATF and the expelled ATF from the fill adjustment that might ensure that it's done properly. Also there should be a charge for the TC drain plus with a gasket (about $5) and the right about of ATF (9 to 10 Qt - my mech said he did the cooler flush and TC with 6Qt but used 7Qt from the empty bottles). Likely he did not do the TC drain as he said he did. Also look and smell for leaks in the garage and on the under engine and transmission. Without a dipstick or removal of the under apron, it's hard to tell if it was done properly.

Do you have a 4 wheel drive for the transfer case?

Lots of issues with many brands of dealers not doing the service properly -- not doing the AT service, off-brand antifreeze, not bleeding the system to remove air, wrong antifreeze level, used part (used right seat belt instead of left sided) that was charged under warranty by Toyota dealers. The service department is the money maker for dealer's now. Not much profit margin from informed buyer in the new car sale due to the internet.
