I'm not being sarcastic or anything, but have you tried washing it off? Hows the texture of it compared to the rest of the mirror?

Yes, I've tried to clean it. I even went was far as to wetting the surface with soapy water, and used a blade to try to scrap it off. NO DIFFERENCE...
I don't recall if it felt any different. I'll have to check again later.

Okay. I'm thinking it might be oxidization of the silver in the mirror. There is normally a protective coating over the silver, but it eventually breaks down, causing it to oxidize like a silver spoon. Are you still under warranty?

I just had the car in for service but I'll be bringing it back in a week to get another item replaced anyway so I'll have them fix this too.
