Parking Patrols...
...are *****s!!
I was in SF yesterday for my 18-mo. son's checkup with my wifey and decided to park along the streets in Japan Town on Webster Street. When we returned, I got a parking ticket, not for my parking meter being expired, because I have 29 minutes left, but for not having a front license plate. I was speechless...
Does this ever happen to any of you?

This is the price you pay when you don't abide by the law of the state whether you agree with it or not.

I'm surprised that a parking patrol would issue a "no front plate" ticket. I thought only CHPs or peace officers do. Well now i know...

Just to be forewarned, they likely can also cite expired registrations, inspections, and probably broken lamp lenses (such as a broken tail lamp red lens revealing only a white bulb), etc.

Parking enforcement really ramped up front plate (and front tint enforcement ticketing last year) here in California. I've modified my front bumper by putting earth magnets inside the back of it and just slap my front plates which also have earth magnets taped on the backside when parked on public streets. Holds on super tight, but quick and easy to add/remove.

I live in two states, NY & LA. NY requires front and rear plate, while LA requires a rear one only, and is the only one issued anyway. I would think if you are from a "One Plate" state, you can dispute the ticket.

Mikes idea is better than mine, but when i stop on the street I have a fabbed bracket w/plate attached that goes into the tow plug in front.. I think i'm going to try out that magnet idea
No plate tickets issued by parking people in OR are only $55 though, 114 - OUCH

Didn't happen to me, but did to a friend in downtown LA. Sucks, but Cali will squeeze every last dime out of all of us to pay for government's fiscal irresponsibility.

No, didn't take photos, but basically it's what you'd imagine. I guestimated the side of the plate and just duct taped the magnets behind the bumper. Make sure they're all the same polarity. Then I put blue painters tape on the plate magnet that touches the car to protect from scratches, cut out double sided tape on the side that will attach to the plate, stuck the magnets on the outside bumper (they'll zero-in themselves to where the magnets on the opposite side is) and pressed the plate against, making contact with the double sided tape. Earth magnets are like super strong too so no risk of falling off. Got the idea from someone on 6speedonline who did it for his Porsche and he actually had tested out driving with it on like that and it held no problem. I know it should be fine as the ones I purchased have a 35lbs pull force which is pretty damn strong, but still a bit scary lol.

I got a ticket a couple of weeks ago because in Brooklyn my muniparking stub was in the middle of the dash and not on the drivers side so it was not easily visible. I am fighting it even though it is only 35.00 the stub was there right in plain sight.

That is total BS. Sounds like NYC is shafting folks for a little revenue.

San Francisco parking control is the worst because of the lack of parking everywhere. Can you believe the prices of these meter parking spots?? One time I was illegally parked (my fault) but I was in the car waiting for my sister and this parking patrol lady tries boxing me in from the rear when I was trying to back up to leave.
Sorry about the ticket. It's ridiculous.

All this San Francisco policing talk makes me fear getting drunk in Delores Park.

An intern in my group just got the $55 ticket here in Portland yesterday. Parking enforcement never used to write tickets for plates, but apparently is the norm everywhere now. I've also heard rumors of them ticketing you even if you put the plate on the dash.
That's why I broke down and installed the Skene Design bracket...

Same idea: $$$ for the coffers....
Key West, couple years ago, rented 2 scooters like we've been doing for 25 years. Parked in a bike area, like we've been doing for 25 years, came back from an overpriced dinner, scooters gone, towed... off-island. Total cost of 24 hour rental for 2 scooters (7 hours use), 2 parking tickets, 2 tows, 2 storage, 2 truck back to KW: $545 (cash only, please).
Haven't been back to KW since. Too bad, we used to drop cash there 3-4 times a year: rooms, food, junk, libations, etc., for us and friends with us. It was off-season and the place was deserted, too. Got their last $ from us. F'ers.
Oh, well maybe it was because of the bad economy at the time.
