c200cdi c220cdi differences

Hi there

I have a C200 CDI and I'm thinking about getting it remapped for a bit more power....

I was looking around at different places to get this undertaken and then got to thinking what the differences are beween the 200 and 220.

so far I have found that all of the following are the same:

displacement: 2143cc
CR: 16.2:1
bore: 83mm
stroke: 99mm
Air Filter: K&N replacement same part number
Turbo: Garrett GTB1752V

Given that the above are all identical I can only conclude that the only difference would be the map loaded onto the ECU....

If that is the case then surely a C200 could be remapped to the same potential as a C220?

I havent found part numbers for the auto boxes yet as I can only think that the 200 maybe uses a different box that isnt up to the power achievable by the 220....

Can anyone clear this up for me?

Hello Matt,

My 2008 220CDI produces 125 Kw & 400 Nm of torque., weighs 1530 kg & does 0-100 km in 8.4 seconds.

It has a 5 speed auto box with the following stamping 722.6400 .

GB # 2112706301 Casting R220 27/190.

If you have the 5 speed box ,I would be surprised if it was of less capability.

Good luck.

JC

Thanks fr the Info, I'll check my specs to see if its the same box (I have the 5 speed sport auto)

A bit more digging has revealed that the injectors are the same part number too, which rules out higher flowing injectors.....

its looking more like its just the ECU.....

I'd like to know where you got the turbo specs for our cars, I can't seem to find it anywhere for our CGi models.

They do use the same engine code, but there are often differences such as the turbo, intercooler, injectors, compression ratio etc.... I havent checked other items but the 250 doesnt seem to use the same turbo. Which means if it has a bigger turbo and the manifolds are the same, it would be an easy (fairly) big power upgrade for the 200 220.... you have me thinking about this now too! lol.....

If MB found your car had a custom remap they would not honour your warranty, luckily the tuning place in the UK that I am looking to use will remove the custom map and reinstall it for free whenever you take your car in to the dealers for any work doing.

W204 C200 CDI
The differing power outputs offered (especially the 200 to 200) look like they are designed more to fit into differing inusrance categories and company car schemes rather than for the general public.... I got a really good deal on the 200 hence why i got that over a 220....

When I say that the turbo from a 250 may be an "easy" job I didnt mean that literally as there is quite a lot of work involved in swapping them over.... but it would open up the way for getting more power if you happen across a 250 that was written off and could get the turbo etc cheaply.....
