C250 Oil Change?

My understanding was that the oil change cycle was reduced from 13,000 miles to 10,000 miles, so the cost of the oil change is incurred more often...to apparently compensate for the differential in capability from fleece to non-fleece filters. Yes, the non-fleece filter could have some unadvertised special qualities, but changing the OE filter type and reducing the oil change cycle seemed contemporaneous, which makes one suspicious. Unless, I misunderstood Glyn's posts, I think the logic holds?

Question about oil filter
Can someone clear up an oil filter question? On the MB 2012 C250, what is the correct oil filter number for Mann? For Mahle? I am getting conflicting information. Is the Mann HU 514 x or HU 514 y? Is there a difference between the two? Thanks

Also, it's just me, but I like to do the early oil changes with the dealer. They seem more receptive to warranty work and whatnot when you have a relationship with them as a customer. Again, your mileage (and luck) will vary.

I finally got a straight answer from the dealer. It is the Mann HU 514 y. Mann makes the original equipment filter for Mercedes. These can be ordered from Application Associates; otherwise, they are most difficult to find. Advance Auto Parts says they have them, but they do not...yet. They probably will, soon.
This was an uphill experience. I've never had quite this much trouble finding a correct answer. Being a certificated FAA Powerplant mechanic, and taking care of Porsches for more than 25 years, I'm okay with doing this myself. But I appreciate the advice. The warranty is my biggest concern.

Amazon will likely carry the filter eventually. Right now they have a 514, but not the Y, they have a X which is for the older 4 cylinder supercharged engines.
The one good thing, unless a dealer isn't close by, a Mercedes oil filter typically has a minimal markup.
I used a Mann on my C Class and a Mercedes branded (identical part) on my SLK a few months ago. The Mann was $10 on Amazon and the genuine was $14 at dealer.

I won't be able to post it until later this evening however. One thing I ended up doing was using my topsider to suck the oil out - after I got it up on the ramps, I decided I did not want to mess with dropping the belly pans and such.
It was quite the painless oil change after I got the filter detached from the housing.

I won't be able to post it until later this evening however. One thing I ended up doing was using my topsider to suck the oil out - after I got it up on the ramps, I decided I did not want to mess with dropping the belly pans and such.

This should probably be its own thread, but I thought I would add...
On the newest Mercedes engines (the new V6s and V8s), Mercedes seems to be saying goodbye to Mann filter for oil filter process.
The new V6 (like if you have the newest C350 or SLK350, the 60 degree new engine), they use this PURFLUX filter (L394). Impossible to find in US except for dealerships (Mercedes branded). Purflux has the same corporate owner as Fram. As much as I don't like Fram, perhaps one day in the future Fram will have a relabeled OEM L394 filter since they have the same parent company.
I think the owners of these newest V6 & V8 engines will miss the easy availability of the Mann filters (on amazon and whatnot) that they enjoyed with the older engines.
The good thing, oil filters are never much money even at MB dealer (and the long interval for change makes the cost minimal).
